| Ukkic05-15-07, 12:37 PM | A few days ago I saw someone post something about a ranger variant class feature that allowed the substitution of fast movement for combat style or something like that, they said it was in Unearthed Arcana I think. I can't find it anywhere, does something like this exist? If so, where? ~Ukkic |
| RobbyPants05-15-07, 12:41 PM | There's a variant toward the beginning of the Complete Warrior that removes a ranger's spells and gives other abilities. At 6th level, their movement increases 10 feet. |
| Steely_Dan05-15-07, 12:41 PM | It is in Complete Warrior. |
| Perseus_Stoned05-15-07, 12:42 PM | On a side-note does anyone think those variants are worth the loss of spellcasting? |
| Steely_Dan05-15-07, 12:47 PM | On a side-note does anyone think those variants are worth the loss of spellcasting? I don't think rangers should have spellcasting in the first place. |
| Perseus_Stoned05-15-07, 01:33 PM | I don't think rangers should have spellcasting in the first place. I'd agree, which is why I considered these variants, but it seems like they don't even begin to reimburse you for your power loss. |
| Naderion05-15-07, 06:16 PM | It's a gain when you want to make it a multiclass character in the first place and don't plan to take more than 6 or 8 levels as ranger. |

| JulesCARV05-16-07, 04:36 AM | There's also a UA variant ranger (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/unearthedCoreClass.html#simple-ranger) who trades the three combat style feats for fast movement as a barbarian and wildshaping like a druid into small and medium animals, which sounds more like what Ukkic was talking about. |

There's also a druid variant that loses wild shape and armor proficiencies in exchange for a ranger's tracking and favored enemy and the monk's AC bonuses and fast move. Given how cool druids are even without the spells (which they still keep in this version, just to be clear) and wild shape (given all the trackless step and so on) I've been intrigued. The idea, iirc, was to make a serious woodland (or wherever else) hunter. |

As Rich Burlew (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0346.html) put it: OOTS Druid (http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w139/robbypants/Druid.jpg) |
