In this case, I'd treat the Arcane Strike ability as any other spell - pick a suitable reuse interval, and require that much time to pass before they reuse Arcane Strike again. Alternately, you may want to rule that Arcane Strike always works as if it were your highest-level spell for effect purposes, and acts as a low-level spell (1st, 2nd, or 3rd level spell, depending on the level of the PC) during the recharge rounds. Since the wizards can throw their smaller spells every round, this lets the Arcane Striker fight as well. |

There's a General Recharge Time for most spells, based on the level of the spell, which you have to wait before casting another spell again of that same level. A few spells have longer recharge times before you can cast that particular spell again, due to the fact that certain spells become horribly broken if allowed to be cast every handful of rounds, all day long. Originally, the way I invisioned Arcane Strike working under this system, was that the caster would name a spell from their spells available, to be converted into an arcane strike, and then the caster would be subject to the recharge time (either General or Specific) as if that spell had actually been cast. This I felt meets the intent of the feat's requirements, while allowing for the difference beween the regular system and the Recharge Magic System. I'm wary of treating Arcane Strike "as any other spell" since that raises a lot of questions in my mind: Is the recharge time for Arcane Strike tracked seperately from the recharge times of the caster's spells, or is effectively an Xth Level spell? If it is just another Xth Level spell, why did the caster have to take a feat for it instead of learning it in the normal manner? and so on... It probably is balanced just fine if you treat it as "cast INSERT SPELL OF THE PLAYER'S CHOICE HERE and substitue the arcane strike effect for the regular effect" I just want to see if there are any glaring loopholes that I've missed before I actually ever allow them in a game. |
