I believe it was in the Eberron setting. I don't have my books handy atm cause someone else is reading them...) That being said, if they are indeed equivalent to one use magic items, can they be made by a character? Perhaps with Craft Wondrous Item or the like. Or perhaps have it just be something just about any character can make. Perhaps it would cost a character 50g and 4 exp (half the gold cost and 1/25th of the gold cost in exp. assuming a 100g value) to make a new action point. Like all other action points, old action points are wasted upon leveling up still. What are people's thoughts on this? |

Just think of each action point as a one-use magic item with a broad range of possible effects. With that analogy, it becomes easy to justify reducing the amount of treasure awarded to balance out the accrual of action points. Note that this is merely a tool for DMs interested in carefully monitoring character power levels; action points should never be for sale. "An action point is roughly equivalent to a magic item worth 100 gp per charcter level (since the higher a character's level, the more potent the effect)." Emphasis mine, but if you want to ignore that part, I'd say something like: Elixir of Luck A character drinking this liquid may gain extrodinary luck. The character gains one action point (as long as the elixir's level is not lower than the character's). A character may not gain more action points than one half his character level in this way. Any action points not used before the character levels up are wasted. 1-5 Faint ???, 6-11 Moderate ???, 12-20 Strong ???; CL equal to level of elixir; Craft Wonderous Item, creator must have access to action points; Price see table Price Crafting Level in GP GP XP 1 100 50 4 2 200 100 8 3 300 150 12 4 400 200 16 5 500 250 20 6 600 300 24 7 700 350 28 8 800 400 32 9 900 450 36 10 1,000 500 40 11 1,100 550 44 12 1,200 600 48 13 1,300 650 52 14 1,400 700 56 15 1,500 750 60 16 1,600 800 64 17 1,700 850 68 18 1,800 900 72 19 1,900 950 76 20 2,000 1000 80 |
