Reducing LA (UA style buy off) ??? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-13-07, 09:17 PM I have been reading the rules from UA on reducing LA for two day's (and staring at the table till my eye's bleed)Am I doing this right ???

OK....LA +4 with 4 racial HD character.

1st level: RHD
2nd level: RHD
3rd level: RHD
4th level: RHD
5th level: class
6th level: class
7th level: class
8th level: class
9th level: class
10th level: class
11th level: class
12th level: class (XP penalty= -1LA)= LA +3
13th to 15th level: class
16th level: (XP penalty -1 LA)=LA +2
17th to 19th level: class
20th level: (XP penalty -1 LA)= LA +1

The wording seems to "imply" that you can buy off ALL of the level adjustment (as long as it's below a +7)....but following the formula....I just don't get it.....:banghead:

2nd Level: Doppelganger 2 (+1 LA)
3rd level: Eligable to pay of previouse +1 LA
4th Level: Doppelganger 3 (2nd HD)
5th level: Doppelganger 4 (+1 LA)
6th Level: Eligable to pay off previouse +1 LA
7th level: Doppelganger 5 (3rd HD)
8th Level: Doppelganger 6 (+1 LA)

No that's not right either....I would already BE a full blown Doppelganger......:rant:

02-14-07, 09:27 AM correct me if I am wrong, don't have the book with me right now, but the variant allows you to buy off an LA at LAx3 levels so if you are LA 1 you can buy off an LA at level 3, so this means with LA +4 you can buy off 1 LA at level 12. This is based on your total class levels not including any Racial HD.

So, for your example... you can buy off your 1st LA when you have 12 class levels since it is +4 LA with 4 Racial HD this means you can buy it off at level 20. After 9 more class levels you can buy off another LA at level 29, then after 6 more class levels you can buy off another LA at level 35, and after 3 more you could buy off your last LA at level 38.

02-14-07, 11:00 AM Ya that's what I came to (with the help of some other good folk)....so a Doppelganger would not be able to buy off all his LA until epic levels......:mad:
Basically the buy off system is OK for low LA characters, but really doesn't change much of anything once your over an LA +3 or higher.
