I've a number of Regional Traits, which a character can take with his or her traits (as per Unearthed Arcana), which help distinguish your character as being typical to his region. Now... AMENTI Amenti is a coastal nation, where the majority of the population fish for their food, and even those that live in the cities engage in wide-scale fishing. A nation with a heritage of dragons and the craft of the mind, Amenti is officially the youngest nation on the Bidestran continent, but may yet be older than any of its brethren. Trait: Characters from Amenti are classically psionically adept, and can at least recognise the talent in those around them. Characters from Amenti gain a +2 bonus to Psicraft checks, but suffer a –2 penalty to Spellcraft checks. Also, characters from Amenti can take the Hidden Talent feat as a background feat. Knowledge: Amenti doesn’t have much of a national identity – most people in Amenti are practical and pragmatic, which means they are rarely found to be studious. Knowledge (Psionics) checks made by a character from Symeira have their DCs reduced by 2. Knowledge (History) checks have their DCs increased by 2. Skills: Profession (Sailor), Psicraft, Ride. Prestige Classes: The Fist of Zuoken, Cerebromancer, and Warmind are all common options for a character from Amenti. ... Would it be in your opinion needlessly complicating character creation to allow optional Regional Substituion levels, in the vein of the Racial Substitutions? I already found the idea of Regional Traits do the job Regional Feats would like to do (tie the players to the setting while not straitjacketing concept), and was wondering if this would just be a Logical Conclusion for something, or a potentially annoying mess. |
