| Valoy_Muniz11-16-07, 02:10 PM | I was thinking about something to encrage my players. As of right now my players will just as likly sleep out side as stay in a inn. Becouse of this and the fact I run a hard campain I was thinking about doing the following. When you stay at a inn or house you gain bounes temp hp for each full day you stay there. (prices are inn stay pluse food cost) Inn stays (per day) Good 2.5 gp 3 temp hp per day max 3 per hd Common 8 sp 2 temp hp per day max 2 per hd Poor 3 sp 1 temp hp per day max 1 per hd These temp hp are lost at the rate of 5 per day that they do not sleep in a inn. This also give a effect of giving all guards of a city (and even reguler people in the city) some extra hp without having to raise there level. I do know that this will be of most beifit to wiz/sor then like a Barbarion but what do you think? |

Tired of them staying in poor accomodations? There's a noisy guest next to them, they don't sleep well. Someone tries to steal thier stuff. No room at the inn. Not every time, but occasionally, especially in seedy areas (where most poor accomodations can be rented) Honestly, your rules may work out, but why mess around with possibly unbalancing house rules when you can work within the existing rules to do the same thing. |
| curtis_ownby11-24-07, 01:28 PM | My DM has had an enemy rob any one who sleep out side when they could sleep in an inn. I was the only one who so willing to spend the gold so I did not get robbed.:D They did get a listen check but with a -10 for being asleep it is realy hard to make. |

Having a house or something makes it really easy. This provides incentive to go to an inn and have good beds like a real person would like to do, as well as having your own house, and luxuries like good furniture. Also, if you want to be really cruel, they take damage throughout the night at bad places because of bed bugs and mosquitoes. |
| Werral12-02-07, 06:04 PM | How do they ever get hired for adventurers if they never go in an inn?;) Also spellcasters need a minimum rest time. I'd suggest that unless they have ranks in survival they lose a couple of hours sleep when sleeping outside (so to count as rested they need to sleep later. Also don't forget mounts: Badly looked after mounts could have all kinds of problems. Also NPC reactions might be negative since people who sleep out are basically hobos and in a city the watch might move them on. Still varying healing rates depending on quality of life makes some sense. Extra temporary HP doesn't really. Of course The Wizards Respite may actually have magical beds or food equivalant to potions (in a high magic world of course). Sleeping in the rain is murder on spellbooks and components:evillaugh |
