| Ltheb Liadon11-25-06, 02:29 AM | For the past several months I have been running campaigns where my players were generally (with one or two exceptions) restricted to Core only material for character creation and advancement. (And few prestige class options at that) We decided that the Core material is a bit too restricting, and that a few more books should be incorporated. I propose (Since my players and the board consensus agree) that we use Player's Handbook 1 & 2 + Complete X series + Spell Compendium for feat and spell options. (Using only the most recent version, in the event a feat/spell was reprinted in a later book like Spell Compendium) The campaigns we run are generally low-magic and try to emphisize role-playing vs combat. (Some varient house rules we use make combat quite deadly/gruesome, and generally it is a smart idea to avoid any fight, no matter how tough you are) I am looking to throw together a list of the feats and spells restricted from player access. This generally means those that are very powerful or, for personal campaign use, supernaturally themed. (Any feat that has a magical or supernatural effect, like reserve feats) The only feats I can note off the top of my head to be Restricted are: All divine Metamagic feats. (Excessive power) Leap Attack Improved Toughness (Gives too many hit points; considering the old Sword and Fist toughness tree as a replacement) (Campaign-specific; Improved toughness isn't actually that great compared to things like Leap-Attack) The Orb spells are house-ruled to the Evocation School and all allow for spell resistance. The additional-action granting spells in PHB II (Too powerful) Can anyone think of other feats / spells that deserve mention? Or other basic books I am overlooking that add a great deal to the game. |

Heh, I don't think it is "too powerful" but the games our group likes tend to have a more gritty theme, and anything that makes the PCs feel safer, like gobs of more hitpoints when increases to constitution are in short supply, ruin that mood. |
