| aldymnor02-18-04, 07:04 PM | Some features of the Gestalt make "Reverse Gestalt" a physical impossibility. Reverse of a Gestalt would be like no abilities from either class, no class skills, etc. Both means "all" but for two subjects. The Reverse of "all" is none. But that's just semantics. Judging by the last line in your description, it seems like you sort of intend to judge whether having all the class abilities but the worst combination of features such as bab, and saves. I suppose you could take the worst set of class skills but that's highly subject to opinion. So that's a big variable. I'd say some are better than others. For example, a "Reverse Gestalt" Barbarian/Fighter would still be seeing benefit from just a Fighter. But like.. a "Reverse Gestalt" Rogue/Cleric would just be ridiculous. We're talking two skill points a level, perhaps even without rogue skills (depending on how you'd want to handle skills). Come to think of it, it's basically just a cleric with worse hit points and saves. This idea is cute, but it suffers from the same lack of continuity as Gestalt characters have. It's almost impossible to just give a solid, consistant level adjustment to two different Gestalts and it's difficult for the "reverse." Edit: Oops i hit post too early. Would I allow it in a normal campaign? I might allow a couple combinations, if they felt balanced. The Fighter/Barbarian thing is very beneficial but the Rogue/Cleric thing is ridiculously underpowered. A Monk/Wizard might make sense though. They sacrifice a mediocre BaB, take only a couple skill points a level, and have poor saves except Will. It's basically a wizard variant, but even then its' slightly more powerful as the worst flurry of blows base attack line will still be considered "The worst" of the two, and it's still better than not flurrying sometimes. Real shady. I'd have to take a look over the specific combinations before I'd let them into a "normal" campaign. |
