I was wondering about some of the fighter bonus feats as applied to the Rogue Variant, specifically those that have a certain fighter-level as a prerequisite. (Eg. Weapon Specialization) Are RVs allowed to take on these feats even though they don't have any fighter levels? I can easily see RVs being allowed to take these feats-provided their Rogue level is the same as the fighter level needed. It doesn't make sense that the RV be allowed to have EVERY fighter bonus feat except the couple that require a certain fighter level. Does anybody know the answer to this question? Thanks.

Like most optional rules (of which Unearthed Arcana is entirely), such specifics are up to the DM. I probably would allow it, but that's just me.

Essentially it is up to the DM, but common sense would say 'no'. You're giving up sneak attack for feats. That's it. You're still not a fighter. You'd still need XX levels of fighter to gain weapon specialization and the rest of the feat tree.

I had a player use that for a campaign a while back because they were more along the 'explorer' type of rogue, not a combatant or assassin. Sneak Attack didn't fit their concept so I allowed them the feat variant from the UA. They wound up being the more useful and versatile character in the party.
