Stardock 09-22-07, 01:21 PM	I have a quick question regarding the level adjustment buy off in UA. Say I have a paladin character. He just turned class level 6 and meets all the other qualifications for the saint template. That means his ECL would become 8 (6 Class Level + 2 LA) he also now has 6 class levels which means he should be eligible for the first LA buy off. But it would cost him 7000 xp, which would drop him back to class level 4. Is this how this is handled, or do you just wait for levels 9 and 12 to buy off the saint template or what?
DEM0man 09-28-07, 09:31 AM	You cant "burn" xp untill you have enough so as not to loose a level , the problem you encounter is happening because you didnt start with the saint template so as to have already covered its level adjustment but you inherit it later so now the xp you need to get to char level 7 are 21000 instead of the 6000 you would need without the template. What you can do to burn some lvl adj is that when you gain 7000xp you chose to spend them so you loose a lvl adj and your ecl goes to 7 so reaching char level 7(and thus ecl8) you would need 13000xp Simple math tells us that if you choose to keep the LA , you have to gain 21000xp with the added penalty of reaching ECL 20 with a char lvl 18 char and that if you choose to follow the ritual you actually win xp because 7000xp for the ritual + 13000xp to level up after the ritual = 20000xp so you win 1000xp and lower your ecl thus gaining more xp than with lvl adj 2 Just to inform you better when you reach Char levl 9 (and if you chose to lower your Lvl adj.) you will have ecl 10 , lvl adj 1 and will need 10000xp to level up but if you spend 8000xp to loose the second la you will now need 9000xp mathwise this doesnt seem smart but lets check it out a bit more. you would need 10000xp to level now you spend 17000xp - the 1000xp you "gained"last time you sold LA its 16000xp and your final ECL will be 10 which means that for the measly amount of 6000xp(ok not so measly but think of the benefits) you will be as strong as an ecl12 char but with ecl 10 which means you will gain more XP from your co players even tho you have the same power which is quite a few xp plus you can reach ecl 20 with 20 char levels so think of it as per the saint template that pre epic you will have more BAB more Saves more Spells 1 more ability increase more fast healing more DR etc etc etc all those for a measly 6000k xp think about it
