Does a wizard aim by pointing exactly at the target or by controling magical powers??? - So I decided to change the attack bonus into caster-Level + main caster attribute (similar to a mundane attack) By this time I looked at the monster manual and the Warlock and feel sad about how easy it is to negate low level spells or spell like abilities. Not only the effect is limited, it's easily negated. The save DC doesn't increase with levels (like the monk's stunning attack). So I tried the following change: Save DC for spells: Caster level + main casting attribute edit: modifier !!!. Since the caster level is nearly the same as twice the spell level, you should double the bonus on saves to keep the chances balanced. 'Weak' saves: up to +12 (instead of +6) 'Good' saves: up to +24 (instead of +12) But the '24' maximum for saves is the same than for skills. So in this way, you could treat 'good saves' as a class ability and 'weak saves' as cross-class abilities. So any character gains +3 skillpoints per level. AND: You have to change any special ability that uses 1/2 class level into full class level (stunning attack). So I tired this out and it works quite fine. Monster advancement increases the number of hit dice and therefore increases the save DC. So you can make full use all low-level-effects (Color Spray) instead of mere self enhancing effects (mage armor, displacement). |
