| markheus02-21-04, 09:33 PM | I was curious as to why the designers gave the Sorceror more spell points than the Wizard. [PHP] |
| aldymnor02-21-04, 09:42 PM | because sorcerers can cast more spells than wizards per day. |
| markheus02-21-04, 09:51 PM | I was under the impression that Spell Points didn't necessarily equal spells known per day. The only function it serves it to determing how many different spells can be cast per day. |
| DragonWatcher02-21-04, 10:02 PM | Exactly right, and a sorcerer can cast more spells per day than a wizard of equal level can cast. That's why they have more spell points. :D |
| markheus02-21-04, 10:49 PM | (Cowers in shame) da doop de doop Thanks. Seriously though. With spell points it seems the distinction between wizards and sorcerors is narrowing. |
| Banpai02-21-04, 10:56 PM | I was at fist dissapointed about the few spell points the sorcerer has more than the wizard about 30 points, the sorcerer casts 1/2 more spells than wizards, but then I dicovered the fact that sorcerers aoutomaticall cast them on a higher level without higher cost so my world was saved again :cloud9:. (I still think the sorcerer is too weak an I made changes in my game to make him better and give him a reason to stay in class other than epic bonus feats ) |
| aldymnor02-22-04, 01:50 AM | Sorcerers = narrow knowledge of spells, more power therein. Wizards = broad knowledge of spells, less power with which to express such knowledge. Bards = fun to tickle, but after a while, they should all be poisoned to make room for more bards. |

I'm still waiting for my copy of the book to arrive, but I do remember being disappointed by the smaller number of extra points a sorcerer got when I was flipping through the book at the store. | stone_dog02-22-04, 03:46 PM | Yeah, I can't find that, but it sounds like a great way to edge sorcerers back up a bit. |
| DragonWatcher02-22-04, 08:24 PM | Originally posted by Banpai then I dicovered the fact that sorcerers aoutomaticall cast them on a higher level without higher cost so my world was saved again I think that Banpai is referring to the example text that is in that section of the book. However, if I'm right about this, than I regret to say that he is mistaken. The text states that using spellpoints, if a wizard casts a fireball spell, it does 5d6 damage, regardless of the wizard's current level (since that's the level that a wizard gains access to fireball) unless he pays additional magic points to boost the damage. A sorcerer casting fireball, however, does 6d6 without paying extra. However, this is only because a sorcerer doesn't gain access to fireball (or any other 3rd level spell) until they are 6th level. Other than that, sorcerers (according to the rules as printed) still have to pay to bump the damage on their spells, the same that wizards would have to. Sorry. |
| cowdragon02-23-04, 02:17 AM | I certainly hope that Banpai is correct...otherwise it looks to me as if the writers jacked the sorcerer pretty bad. Look ma, I got all the flaws with none of the benefits! :) Anyway, just my opinion on the topic. The Cowdragon :mage: |

| cowdragon02-23-04, 07:34 AM | So, if I'm reading this correctly... 10th level wiz casts fireball. It does 5D6 damage, plus 1D6 per extra point put into it. 10th Level sorc casts fireball. It does 10D6 damage. On both, extra points may be added for meta-magic? Is this correct? I hope so. Thank you. The Cowdragon :mage: |
| Ulden Throatbane02-23-04, 09:33 AM | Nope. the 10th level sorc casting fireball does 6d6 damage, +1d6 per extra point put into it. |
