I was sure it was false until I stumbled across something in the Unearthed Arcana book on page 153 under the House Rule: Daily Spell List sidebar. Paragraph 2: "Unlike what a sorcerer can do, a spell caster using this system can't cast a lower-level spell in place of a higher-level spell." The side bar goes on to discuss the spontaneous casting of Summon Nature's Ally by druids, which says to me that the content of this book is meant for the 3.5 rules. If my first statement is true, where is the information listed? I can't find it in the PHB or anywhere else. Thanks, JK

So can wizards, and clerics, and almost every single other spell caster out there. let's see, SRd.. ahah! from page 10 of the 'magic overview' of the SRD: "A spellcaster always has the option to fill a higher-level spell slot with a lower-level spell. " the same is repeated in the divine casting section. Now, the above quote was from the wizard section, but the sorcerer/bard section is focused on how they are different (note how small the section is). rather than repeating all the way in which they are the same. so with nothing to say that they too can not use higher level spell slots, there is not reason not to beleive they can, especially since in the 3.0 PHB, that quote was in the general section before you talk about individual types of casters.
