This is my idea for a sorcerer variant, much like the Battle Sorcerer in UA. The trade off is spell selection versus greater skill use/customization as well as a few feats thrown in to give an "edge" much like the combat feats suddenly become viable for the battle sorcerer. Please, tell me what you think.
Without further ado:

Skill Based Sorcerer:
This Sorcerer’s magic is based intense interest and devotion to a set of skills. The devotion to the study/use of these skills has awaked an innate magical talent of the person in ways simular to a bard's link to music.
Examples might include a skilled craftsman, a talented acrobat, an expert who has devoted his life to his studies, a society hostess who literally oozes charm and grace.

Starting age: As Bard/Fighter/Ranger/Paladin
Weapons: As standard Sorcerer.
HD: d4
Skills: 4+Int. Class skills are as follows: Bluff, Concentration, Spellcraft, Any one knowledge, profession, craft, or perform, plus any three.
They do not have Knowledge: Arcana automatically because they "stumble in" to thier magic and may not even be aware they are useing magic at low levels.

Skill based casting: Any two of your class skills may be designated as casting skills. Use of these skills can be substituted for one spell component with a skill check of 10+spell level. The GM may rule that certain combinations like, performance (chant) to replace verbal, may not be used to replace a given component.

Feats
Skill based sorcerers may not take draconic feats. Skill based sorcerers do not start with a familiar (see below). Instead, the character may choose one of the following at 1st level. The characters may subsequently choose any of the following feats whenever they gain a feat normally.

Designate Spellcasting Attribute: Replace Charisma with the primary attribute of one of your casting skills.

Modified Arcane Disciple: As Arcane Disciple (complete divine P. 79) but with the following changes. Replace the skill perquisites with the skilled sorcerer casting skills, use charisma (unless they also have Designated Spellcasting Attribute) for spell casting attribute rather then wisdom for all spell effects. The caster gets access to the spells only, not the granted special ability of the domain.

Magical Grace: The love and devotion to their art protects the character. Treat as Divine Grace paladin ability.

Prodigy: All feats that grant bonuses to a caster skill such as skill focus or athletic are treated as skill ranks for purposes of entering prestige classes.

Obtain Familiar: This may be taken as a feat at 1st level.

The following metamagic feats: Silent Spell, Still Spell, Eschew Materials. The same restrictions that apply to skill based casting apply here. The skilled sorcerer does not suffer a level penalties if taking silent or still spell in this case.

Spells: As battle sorcerer in UA, in addition all spells must be "themed" at until 8th level. The DM may impose 10% XP penalties for breaking the "theme". At higher levels the Sorcerer is in touch with thier intuitive grasp of magic and skills and are no longer so restricted.

All the Best,

Nani?
