| phounix02-22-07, 04:16 PM | Does anybody know how to calculate the spell points for other classes or prestige classes that uses magic? I aks it because we used this system and it worked fine, but now one of my players is going to take the Hunter of the Dead prestige class (Complet Warrior), and the text of the Spell point system does not explain how to calculate the spell points. |
| Archmage Atrus02-22-07, 06:34 PM | I suggest you adapt the Paladin table to fit a 10 level progression instead of a 20 level one. |
| Wayside02-23-07, 03:16 AM | It looks as follows. 1st 0 2nd 1 3rd 1 4th 4 5th 4 6th 9 7th 10 8th 17 9th 20 10th 25 plus bonus spell points of course. |

| Wayside02-24-07, 09:29 PM | What you need to do, barring figuring out the formula they used (if indeed they used one). Is find the point in another class that has the same spells per day at any given point and use the spell points they would have at that level. For example a 3rd level duskblade gets 5 0 level and 4 1st level spells. A 2nd level sorcerer gets 6 0 level and 4 1st level spells. (Identical except for one zero level spell). So a 3rd level duskblade would have the same spell points as a 2nd level sorcerer (5). Do this for every level and you have the progression for the duskblade. |
| Zumarai02-26-07, 07:13 AM | You just use the spells per day at each given level, multiply it by the spell points for that level of spell and then add it all up. Looking over the bard, at 20th level it has 144 spell points, and 4 slots per spell level is where we have to translate from. Adding up the value of those slots leads us to 144. 4 x 11 = 44 4 x 9 = 36 4 x 7 = 28 4 x 5 = 20 4 x 3 = 12 4 x 1 = 4 Total = 144 So Duskblade can be worked out level by level doing the same sort of thing. Eg, 20th level = (6x9 = 54) + (8x7 = 56) + (10x5 = 50) + (10x3 = 30) plus (10x1 = 10) = 200. |
| Wayside02-27-07, 03:11 PM | Sorry, although doing it that way seems like the logical choice it doesn't work for all the classes. Had it been so easy i would have just done that, but using that system the sorcerer would have 486 spell points and the wizard would have 324. Granted, my method doesn't really work for duskblade either since there are no classes already defined that have such an odd spell progression |
| phounix03-04-07, 02:32 AM | Sorry it took so long. Zamurai Wrote: You just use the spells per day at each given level, multiply it by the spell points for that level of spell and then add it all up. Thats just what I wanted to do. But after some research on the matter I found a D20 book that offers a similar system, but the halve the total. They did this for game balance. The 2 systems have their strenghts, so I'm going to use a combination of those two systems. |
| Quade03-05-07, 03:22 PM | To those of you who have used it. Does the spell point system seem to make the Sorc. less valuable as a class? Most spell point systems do a lot of what the Sorc can already do, i.e. spell choice. |
| Archmage Atrus03-05-07, 08:44 PM | The way it's written - yes. The sorcerer gets the shaft in so many ways it's not even funny. But, if you basically double (or x1.5) their spell points after 10th level (or so), the sorcerer becomes a much more viable option. |
