I only thought of it because I like the spell point system (I play Final Fantasy a lot and it reminds me of mp, heh). This could also be used for Psionic items, such as Dorjes (but it'd use Power Points, not Spell Points, obviously). This system is for use with spell points (as the title suggests) and is a little strange. The best way to explain it is with an example. You need to have at least equal CL as the item to restore any charges to it. Example: Wand of Cure Light Wounds (CL5) (30 Charges) To recharge a magic item that has charges (in this case 50) that has lost 1 or more, you must spend a number of spell points equal to <base cost + CL>*<number from missing charges table below>. So this Wand would have a base cost of 1 (because that's how much a 1st level spell costs) +5 (for Caster Level), which equals 6. 01-10 missing = 01 11-20 missing = 02 21-30 missing = 04 31-40 missing = 06 41-50 missing = 10 So take the example from above and you get 6 * 2 (There are 20 charges missing, so using the table gets us the number 2) which equals 12. That means that it takes 12 SP to restore each charge until there are only 10 charges missing (at which point it becomes 6 SP per charge). Any spell that has a cap in this system (Cure Light Wounds has a cap of +5, based on CL, and a Fireball could be between CL5 and CL10) no longer exceeds that cap for determining cost. So, the cost before adding the missing charge number will never go above 6 for a Wand of Cure Light Wounds (or 15 for a Wand of Fireball (using the unintentional example)). Edit: You must have the spell contained within the Wand (Or all spells contained within a Staff) on your Spells Known list or prepared that day. This system makes it so that it is harder to restore a Wand or Staff that is almost out of charges (its power has been drained significantly so it takes more energy to restore its functions) and makes it easy for even low level casters to restore their favourite Wands. What does anyone out there think? |

Just make sure that when charging a wand, you have to have the wand's spell on you class list, just like creating it. Otherwise you're going to have a lot of Sorcerers running around with never ending cure wands. |
