| Shadowslayer06-08-04, 04:43 AM | I've got a couple of issues to discuss here. First, I'm running a campaign where we're using the Spontaneous Divine Casting variant as well as Spell Points. I like the concept of spontaneous casting going for rangers and paladins as well - so that brings up the question of the number of spells known for a ranger or paladin. The table on page 65 of UA only gives spells known for clerics and druids. One possibility (that I'm leaning towards) is to just use the spells known table given in the Hexblade description (Complete Warrior page 8) since they are spontaneous arcane casters with the same spell progression as the ranger and paladin. However, that brings me to question #2: How do you then determine Spell Points? When comparing the wizard vs. the sorcerer (a preparatory caster vs. a spontaneous caster in an equal-level spell progression) the sorcerer gains more spell points than the wizard. This, coupled with the fact that the table for Spontaneous Divine Casting changes the number of spells gained leads me to think that there needs to be a greater number of spell points than the standard listed on page 153. So it boils down to this main question: How many spell points do Hexblades and spontaneously casting rangers and paladins gain? |
