| The Cosmic Goose03-09-04, 02:19 AM | Okay, i love the spell-point system (as almost everyone here does as well). I've even come up with a way of making Sorcerers useful again now that everyone casts spontainisly (give Sorceres accsess to Divine and arcane magic, greater virsitility this way) theres one sticking point though. how does the SP system impact the feel of the campaine world? the fact that most casters will be able to wip ouyt spells as often as they need them now (within reason) is a bit of a change. does this impact the world of DnD (or forgotton realms or whatever) positivly or negitively? does it enhance or detract from the game in you guys opinions? in truth, this post is motivated by the fact that i had to struggle so long to convince myself to like the old "fire and forget" system that im having problems changing my mind now. never mind the fact that Unearthed Arcana is my wet dream as a DM. thoughts? |
| Masterful_Norg03-09-04, 04:23 AM | The spell point system makes a campaign look and feel more magical than one with the spell slots because now magic feels much more like raw 'energy' rather than dusty mail slots of varying sizes. Magic is really quite glamorous with this system installed. What I really want to talk about is recharge magic and how it affects a campaign. This system throws spell pricing just a bit off, because now a 1st level sorceror who used to be able to cast 3 1st level spells in a 16 hour day can, on average, cast 2400 1st level spells. My suggestion is to lower the pricings by two zeros, which would mean that the world would be heavily affected by magic but seeing as its rarity is reduced the price wouldn't be so steep. You wouldn't be able to stop your world from ending up like Eberron whithout a very extenuating set of circumstances. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing. Its actually very cool. This system is somewhat bordering on the excessive, but I like that. Back to spell points. Just thinking about them has made me dream up a new greater artifact. It would look something like an electric chair and its purpose would be clear to everyone I'm sure. |
