First of all, if the spell points variant is used, what sort of spell point progression should this class have? I think the wizard progression should work (since spellcasters get less spells per day than sorcerers), but I was wondering what others may think. Also, should spellcasters be subject to spell failure when wearing armor? One would think that this depends on whether they choose to cast arcane or divine spells, but if that's the only difference between these two options, why would anyone want to be an arcane spellcaster? A divine spellcaster gets all the same spells, etc., but can also wear armor. (I'm also not sure why there needs to be the arcane/divine distinction if there's only one spellcasting class.) Anyway, I really like the generic classes, and also the spell point option, and I'd like to hear what others think of these issues. Draco Caeruleus |

Whether you can take the Turn Undead feat or not (Divine spells). 3. Which kinds of scrolls you can use. I don't think there's any difference between the types regarding armor or arcane spell failure. Odd that. Personally, I don't see any reason to keep the casters separate and would only use one "Spellcaster" in such a campaign but that's just me (since I hate the separation between divine and arcane magic anyway). Now I just need a versatile (greater spell selection), flavorful spellcaster that doesn't unbalance the game because it combines the abilities of the spellcasting classes. Something to be in my campaign what the Aes Sedai are in the Wheel of Time (without the "overpowered" part). |

Sorcerers only gain the equivilent of a bonus spell over a wizard of the same level. As spellcasters only end up losing one spell in total over the course of 20 levels, I don't see why they shouldn't gain spell points as sorcerers. |

After my original post, I thought of giving spellcasters spell points roughly in between the sorcerer and the wizard, but since spellcaster spells per day is MUCH closer to sorcerer than wizard spells per day, it makes sense to simply give the spellcaster the same spell points per day as the sorcerer. John--those are differences between arcane and divine spellcasters, but what I had in mind was differences in how powerful each was. And in that respect, there's no difference. I too would like to have only one spellcaster class. Given the way it's presented in UA, there is no reason to distinguish between arcane and divine magic. Unless you want to restrict spellcasters from being able to turn undead AND have a familiar without multiclassing, but I see no point in that. Draco |
