Spellpoints & Power Points Combination [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-22-06, 04:47 AM So I'm running a campaign and just decided to allow spell points. In the party there is a wizard, a cleric, and a psion. Then a awesome idea struck me. What if the three classes could all combine massive amounts of their points into some external energy ball which could then immediatly be used for one heck of a attack. Pretty much something that they wouldn't want to use often, but when they're against the ropes the could create a dangerious and risky threat. Sure, its a game winner but if they miss they're screwed.

But I have no idea where to begin, other than a few ideas.
1) The characters should have to sacrifice most of the spell points or power points to accomplish this. Although I'm not sure if this should just be a requirement of spending 75-90% of your points or just make the conversion cost large.

2) The points would either be collected in some external ball, or would be given to one person. Either way, one member who has the highest likelyhood of damaging the enemy would immediatly have to expend all of these points.

3) there should be bodily costs on all participants. This is so they don't use it to solve every tough encounter. It's truly for situations where there is little hope.

4) Characters with Ki powers or something like that should be able to add to the ball too. I'm not sure how this would convert though. Maybe 2-4 points/ki use.

5) The energy could be put into a physical attack too. For this, I think I got it. Characters recieve a +1/ 5 points in the total, +1 to damage for every two points, and the attack automatically bull rushes the opponent with a bonus equal to the points total (is this too much, I think a big knock back is neccessary?).

I know this is strange, but I think it would be really dramatic. So if anyone has any suggestions or feedback on any of this, that would be really great.

I like the idea and believe it would work. If you want inspiration, look at Metaconcert in the XPH 3.5 (SRD is availible here in wizards.com if you need it).
When in doubt, make that ability a feat! Good luck
