The story that I am using it for: I am currently writing up a campaign where the gods were killed much earlier in the past, when current races of humanoids came about. Magic will be outlawed by the current Overlords. People with clerical ability "disappear" as The Overlords are not capable of wielding divine magic. I am using Unearthed Arcana's rules for converting all divine casters (druid/cleric) to spontaneous casters. The only exception to this will be the Archivist from Heroes of Horror. As a result all casters except for Wizard and Archivist will be spontaneous. (Spirit Shaman will be available too in unmodified form). Written spells will be difficult to find except in ancient places of power that are protected by various levels of Eidelon contructs (Lords of Madness). A wizard or Archivist will be able to obtain new spells from the locations mentioned above, written on scrolls, etc, or from spontaneous casters by ripping it from their blood/minds. The individual from whom they wish to get a spell from must be either a willing participant or unconscious (or dying). They must learn it like a wizard would with a new spell and overcome a Will saving throw. |
