What do people think of it?

I'm thinking of making clerics cast spontaneously but not druids. They already have the domains, which is essential for the spontaneous divine caster, and it seems to fit the concept. A servant of the faith should be able to trust in providence to get the right spell at the right time, which is what spontaneous casting does. Also, the limited spells known gives the impression that they were "given" by the power rather than "chosen" by the cleric.

The druid seems to be more on equal terms with nature, having chosen to walk its paths rather than being called. Spell preparation and the full spell list seems more in keeping with one who explores and unlocks the secrets of the natural world.

Actually, I did the exact opposite. I always felt that the druid should be to the cleric what the sorceror is to the wizard; a more wild analogue. A cleric has a specific deity to pray to for help in specific ways ("Please bless us with the strength to serve your will." = lemme prepare three bull's strength's today), whereas a druid just has nature. Nature just sort of is. So the druid's magic should just sort of be.

I just gave Sorcerors some divine spells, myself. Although with metamagic working its way towards Sorcerors I may take that particular decision back.

Spontaneous divine spellcasting works okay, but if I do bring it back I'd restrict it to characters with a divine heritage (aasimar, for instance).

Druids spontaneously spellcasting is a bit preposterous when you actually consider their outlook on magic...they have a lot more people to ask favors and forgiveness of than just a god. ;)

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to read Dragon Issue #311 with the Evangelist spontanous divine spellcaster.

It seems to me that the Evangelist had to sacrifice the ability to turn or rebuke undead. The Evangelist also matched the Sorceror's by waiting an extra character level to obtain each new level of spellcasting (i.e. 2nd level spells as the fourth level Evangelist , 3rd level speels at sixth level Evangelist, etc.)

In exchange for these disadvantages the Evangelist receives an additional domain at 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level.

By comparision, the Spontaneous Divine Spellcaster retains a clerics rate of advancement through spellcasting levels but has fewer spells known. Otherwise, the variant Spontaneous Divine Spellcaster appears to retain the ability to turn or rebuke undead.

My question is, does the version from Dragon appear to be more balanced (exchange of abiltiies for spontanous spellcasting)?
