Has anyone used any of the UA variants for spontaneous metamagic. I'd like to include one in my game and I just wanted to see if anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with them

Thanks.

I have considored allowing them... actually if any of my palyers asked I probably would ahve let them. However now with complete arcane out I am letting them use the sudden meta magic feats.

I have considored combining them... I.E. allowing a player with empower to get one free empower per day, but have to memorize the rest.

I had another look at the 2 variants in UA last night. I think I will definitely be ruling out the second version. What on earth were the designers thinking? To maximise a 6th level spell, say Chain Lightning, you use up the 6th level slot for the spell itself plus three more slots of 6th or higher level!! So it costs at least 4 6th level spells to cast one maximised chain lightning. And it's practically impossible to use any of the high cost metamagic feats (quicken etc) on high level spells as you don't increase your spells/day beyond 20th level. To quicken a 9th level spell will cost you 5 9th level or higher slots! You would need an inherent Int score of 36+ to even consider being able to do that at 20th level. And that would be all your 9th level spells gone for the day.
