kadeity 02-07-07, 01:17 PM	So i usually Dm. Actually i dm like, always... But ive been wanting to play as a player lately... so i asked a friend i know who dm's to run a campaign when he comes home this summer. Ok... Heres what hes doing. Hes running Gestalt, which im not a huge fan of, but he has a homebrew version of it. Its just like regular gestalt except... you choose a primary class & a secondary class. Your secondary class levels 5 levels behind your primary... You get the HD and Proficiencies of whatever is better between your choices. Your stats are normal until sixth level, at which point your 2nd class kicks in. At that point you take whichever class increases your save more. So if you were a primary Sorcerer, secondary monk... at 6th level sorcerer only increases your saves by one, but monks first level would increase them by two, so you take monk. In fact, usually you just upgrade your save to the faster progression at that point. We can select classes from core & completes, and tome of battle. Tome of magic & phb2 are out, except Knight. Your class abilities progress as normal, except that one class is five behind. You cant multiclass. You can take prestige classes from any source, though your secondary and primary classes dont progress... and essentially PRC's are as normal. All dual spellcasting progression prestige classes are out, as well as jade pheonix mage. Personally... tome of battle in gestalt scares me... but he assures me "it will feel alot more balanced than regular gestalt." Anyway...i think hes nuts, but im here fishing for character ideas anyway. Right now i think Warlock/Scout is the best path... but if anyone has better ideas lemme know.
CowMasterTrojan 02-07-07, 02:00 PM	Huh? That's a weird change. Gestalt never was that broken at lower levels, its the higher levels. So I suppose he's trying to make 5 more levels of characters not being overpowered. Dont think it will work though. So does the second class get the skill pointsx4 when you aquire it?
kadeity 02-07-07, 02:14 PM	no it doesnt, but when you make the character, you take the higher skill points. His idea is that when you choose a primary and secondary class, you make a new class. Basically you take the better Skill points & the better Hd. You gain all of the proficiencies of both classes. You gain all the skills of both classes. When you level, the first 5 levels your usign just your Primary class's BAB & SAVES, but when you hit lvl6 you take the better of the two progressions from then on, as if you were leveling multiclass in the class of the better progression. So yeah, youll feel the effect of the lesser saves, but not as hard. anyway for the most part, everything you get from the 2nd class is 5 levels behind the primary class.
