As we all know Star wars is Science Fantasy not Sci fi (and if you don't know that I'm sorry to brake your heart but there no santa ether). Now I want to run a game using the D&D classes with Star wars level tech. (Think Dragon star but with less armor and Gamma world equipment). The only class I really wnat to rework is the artifacter and combine him and the techie class. SO I was wonder what is a good system for handling Class defense bonus the one in UA stinks and althouoght I've tryed I've been unable to use the SW one and keep it balanced. Any ideas.

Go down to the local game shop and take a look at shadowrun. I'm not suggesting you have to buy it, just flip through it for ideas for your own homebrew setting. I've never actually looked at it myself, but someone told me that it was like a modern or futuristic setting but you have people casting spells and fighting with swords (so this is a second hand recomendation). My group has our next 3 campaigns already planned and we're only half-way through city of the spider queen right now, and spycraft isn't going to be done for several years, if ever, so I haven't bothered.

Have you considered d20 Modern?

Yes and it would work except spells top out at level 5 or 6 andI like my magic to go all the way to 9 as I like the high fantasy feel of D&D. Any other ideas.

The main problem i see is with multiclassing to get an ungodly Defense bonus.
Here's what i do. You know how one gets max HP and extra skill points if they take x class per level. Apply that to defense bonus as well...
Say u have a class with d8HD, 6 skill points, good fort and reflex and good defense bonus. Rewrite the classes like this...

HD: d8
Skill Points: 6 per level
...at first level (damn html)
Fort: +0
Ref: +0
Will: +0
Defense: +0
Here's the kicker.
If this is your first level.
Max HD: (8)
Skill points (6+int mod) x4.
+2 to fort, reflex and defense.
I have this written up better at home but do ya get me?

Maybe you didn't get my point the first time around.

Take the class defense bonus from Modern SRD and mix it with the magic rules (if you like them) from the Revised SRD.

Try mixing and matching rules components until you get the right ruleset for your game. That's what d20 is all about.

What exactly's wrong with the defense bonus in UA and Star Wars so that you can't use them? That could help us figure out what what direction you want to go with it.

A few pages back, I noticed that UA had huge bonuses at lower levels when compared to d20 Modern. So I reworked the UA chart here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=363945).

The website I have in my profile as my homepage is for a D&D / SW d20 hybrid campaign I DM'd. The "player pack" at the bottom (word doc) goes into all of the house rules.

Copied from there:

D&D Class & related SW Class DV bonus:

D&D class uses SW class advancement
Barbarian ------------ Fringer
Bard ---------------------- Noble
Rogue,Ninja,Bard ------------ Scoundrel
Fighter, Samurai ------------ Soldier
Wizard,Wu Jen ------------ Tech Specialist
Sorcerer, Psion ------------ Force Adept
Sohei, Monk ------------ Jedi Guardian
Psychic Warrior ------------ Jedi Consular

That worked just fine for our campaign.

Sorry, it's a habit of mine to promote the use of the SRD.

As for UA, which contains OGC, critics complained the class defense bonus and progression.
