I originally posted this on the Classes and Prestige Classes, and got some good feedback, though I thought I might try it on the houserules forum and see if I could get some more.

Here is a PRC I created originally as a base class. A friend of mine suggested it would make a better PRC, so I changed it. That had one side effect of making the ability progression much faster, but I think that is fine, I think. A lot of PRC's get something every level. It might actually be a bit too powerful, so tell me what you think.

Sword Saint (PRC)

The Sword Saint is a champion warrior and hunter of the nomadic people from the Ithkatla desert. The Ithkatlan desert was a very harsh region, with fearsome predator’s constantly stalking the sands. Living in the desert, armor was not very practical, so the Ithkatlans learned to be fluid in combat, they learned that the best way to defend themselves from the desert predators was to move rapidly in a seemingly random pattern. They learned to move while they fought in such a way, that an attacker would think they were moving to one location, when they would actually move to another. They called this their dance. Consequently the better they perfected their dance, the more they learned how to recognize another‘s actual intended direction.
Defense was not all that was needed against the predator’s of the desert though, as the Ithkatlans also needed food. but most weapons proved ineffective against the deserts natural inhabitants. Clubs would bounce off scaly hides, and spears would brake before piercing. To survive the Ithkatlans had to live by the sword. After a time the desert predators became fearful of the sword, and would stalk and kill anyone without one. So the sword became a very important part of their lives. It became a rite of manhood to craft your own sword. You chose what type of weapon worked best for you at an early age, and trained in that almost exclusively. You could use others, but to end the practice of having inferior quality blades, the Ithkatlans would not let a young warrior use the weapon she trained in until she could craft her own to a razors edge. When this was complete you could begin training as a Sword Saint.
This devotion to the sword led most Sword Saints to feel as if the sword itself was a divine entity. They learned to meditate, and almost worship the sword. This practice allowed them to give a part of themselves to their sword. They would eventually become one with their chosen weapon, as they were able to bind a portion of their own soul into the blade. That one blade they would use always, and they would never permanently exchange it with another blade. Though they might use another blade if the situation called for it, they would always return to the use of their soul bound blade. Binding a soul to a sword allowed them to imbue the blade with the magical properties of another sword. They could not actually produce the magic themselves though, so the energies had to be stripped from one blade and placed into their soul bound sword. Then their sword would produce same magical properties of the original, but to any other, it would simply be a sword of masterwork quality.
The mastery of movement and sword arts the Sword Saint perfected, gave them a sense of confidence few others know. A Sword Saint holding her chosen weapon, can be quite intimidating to most people, and just that air of condfidence has been known to end many conflicts before they even begin.
Hit Die: d10.

Class Features
All the following are class features of the Sword Saint.
Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: A Sword Saint is proficient with all simple weapons, and all sword based weapons (dagger, kukri, shortsword, longsword, rapier, scimitar, falchion, greatsword, bastard sword, two bladed sword, katana, etc.). They are not proficient with any armor or shields.
Defensive Dance: The Sword Saint learns how to move with grace, and fluidity in such a way that in combat it is difficult to tell where they will be. When unarmored and unencumbered the Sword Saint applies her Charisma bonus to her AC. The bonus also does not apply any time the Sword Saint would be denied her Dexterity bonus. This bonus also does not apply to Sword Saints of the same or higher level as they can more accurately tell where someone will be based off their dance. The Sword Saint can still use the Defensive Dance when using a medium or smaller shield.
Chosen Weapon: The Sword Saint can construct a chosen weapon. It must be of a type of sword for which they have the Weapon Focus Feat, and it must be made of masterwork quality. They get +1 proficiency bonus to hit with their chosen weapon. This is in addition to the +1 that a masterwork weapon provides. This +1 applies only to the Sword Saint who crafted this weapon. This weapon will eventually be their soul bound sword. A Sword Saint may only have one chosen weapon made at a time.
Soul Bound Sword: At 2nd level the Sword Saint may now bind their soul to their chosen weapon. The Sword Saint then must put additional work into their chosen weapon, which requires as much work, and component costs as if they were making a masterwork item of the same type. Then they must meditate with, and focus on their sword for 24 hours.

The Soul Bound Sword of a Sword Saint functions just as their chosen weapon, but the Sword Saint gets +1 proficiency bonus to damage when using their Soul Bound Sword. The Sword Saint may also transfer magical abilities from any other weapon to their Soul Bound Sword. To do this requires 24 hours of meditation focusing on both the Soul Bound Sword, and the weapon whose abilities are being transferred . The Soul Bound Sword will actually look different when this process is finished and will take on slight appearance changes that coincide with its new abilities. The type of abilities that can be copied onto the Soul Bound Sword is NOT limited by the weapon-type of the sword. (If a rapier is a Soul Bound Sword, and you copy the Keen Edge ability onto it, it takes on a slight edge in its appearance, and retains the Keen Edge ability, even though Keen Edge cannot normally be imbued onto a piercing weapon.)

The magical weapon that the abilities were transferred from has its magical properties stripped from it during this process. If for some reason the magical properties cannot be stripped from the weapon being transferred, then the Soul Bound Sword does not gain the special abilities of the weapon. If the Soul Bound Sword already has magical properties when the Sword Saint decides to transfer another weapon's abilities, the abilities must first be stripped from the Soul Bound Sword. This can lead to the Soul Bound Sword losing all ability if the sword being copied cannot be stripped of its abilities. It takes 1 day to strip the existing properties from a Soul Bound Sword. Finally, the abilities on the Soul Bound Sword works only for the Sword Saint it belongs to. A Soul Bound Sword with existing magical properties cannot be magically enchanted in the normal way, unless the magic being enchanted on the sword is of greater level than the abilities currently on it, and then it supercedes the abilities on the sword and replaces them.

The Sword Saint's soul is actually bound to their sword by this union, and if the Sword Saint dies, they can only be revived if the person doing the reviving possesses the sword. Until then, their consciousness resides within the sword, and it now becomes an intelligent weapon, and allows everyone the use of the magical properties it originally only allowed the Sword Saint. Their soul can only be released from the sword if it is broken. At which time they can be revived as normal. Like a chosen weapon, the Sword Saint, may only have one Soul Bould Sword, because it is his chosen weapon. If the Soul Bound Sword is ever taken from the Sword Saint she cannot make another, must find her original sword. She cannot forge a new Chosen Weapon, nor bind any weapon to her soul. Because the Soul Bound Sword is a part of the Sword Saint, however, she will know the approximate direction and distance she is from the Soul Bound Sword. This sense is not enough to pinpoint where exactly the sword is, but it will tell the Sword Saint if the Soul Bound Sword is near or far, and in which direction it rests, unless it is very near, in which case, the Sword Saint will just know that she is close to it. If a Sword Saint's Soul Bound Sword is ever broken the Sword Saint cannot forge a new one, until a year and a day has past. They may however, craft a new chosen weapon. The Sword Saint will automatically know if the Soul Bound Sword is broken. If magical abilities are enchanted onto the Soul Bound Sword (superceding the abilities it already possesses) of a Sword Saint who died her soul is utterly destroyed, and she can never be revived through the use of any spell. This has no effect on a Soul Bound Sword of a living Sword Saint.

Staredown, Mass Staredown, Improved Staredown, and Frightful Presence, the same as the Samurai class from Complete Warrior.

Improved Chosen Weapon: The Sword Saint has become so skilled with their chosen weapon that while wielding it they inflict greater damage. The Sword Saint gains a +1 proficiency bonus to damage with their chosen weapon.

Block: The Sword Saint is so adept at reading opponents, and using their Chosen Weapon, that they can block arrows with it as if they had the Deflect Arrows Feat. However this ability may not be used as a prerequisite for the Snatch Arrows Feat.

The Bonus Feats that the Sword Saint can choose from the following list; Blind Fight, Combat Expertise, Improved Combat Expertise, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Power Attack, Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Improved Critical, Improved Initiative, Persuasive, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Improved Sunder, Quick Draw, Shield Proficiency, Skill Focus (Perform: dance), Skill Focus: Intimidate, Weapon Finesse, Whirlwind Attack.

Well, it has an interesting flavor. The whole "combat dance" motif is often cool, however it is dressed up.

The class seems to imply that the Sould Bound Sword cannot actually be enchanted itself. While stealing someone else's flaming quality might be cool, I think a high-level fighter without a weapon with an appropriate enhancement bonus is shooting themselves in the foot, both in terms of DR and of attack and damage bonus. If the answer is that they can steal enhancement bonus, then that really makes their special sword just a very cheap way of potentially gaining a high enhancement, but it no longer really has too many unique powers, since they probably have to keep the enhancement all the time.

It is unusual to give a class a single Perform skill. Generally classes either have Perform or they don't. I wouldn't fear that you overpower the class by allowing the extra Perform skills.

The class sounds a little like a Dervish.

Actually the Soul Bound Sword effectively copies all of the magical properties from another weapon, however, it strips the abilities from the original weapon to do so. So if a 2nd level Sword Saint, had found a +2 flaming dagger, and transferred the abilities from the dagger to her bastard sword which was her chosen weapon, she end up having a +2 flaming bastard sword, and the dagger would then be only a masterwork weapon. It is now a magic weapon for for the Sword Saint, but in anyone elses hand it is only a masterwork weapon. It may sound like a cheap way to get a good weapon, at first, but you actually have to have a weapon with the same properties in the game before you can make it your Soul Bound Sword, so either you would have had to find it, or buy it, which would be normal in the game. Then after it is transferred neither the original magical weapon, nor the Sould Bound Sword is worth more than a masterwork weapon gold-wise, so it actually costs quite a bit of gold for the weapon, or at least you will have less gold potential because of it.

As for the Perform(dance) skill, I did that because the Shadow Dancer did the same thing. The original option I did for the class was to have their fighting style based off a minimum of movements, and their defensive ability was based off observation, and based off of Intelligence rather than Charisma. One of the reasons I changed it is because this seemed more like some fancy martial arts movies.

If it transfers all of the abilities of the weapon then you don't have to worry about the problem I was concerned about.

I did just notice something else, however. It is a little strange to require someone to have both Power Attack and Combat Expertise for the same class. I would say CE makes perfect sense, but something else might make more sense than Power Attack. Maybe Dodge and/or Mobility. Of course, it's just a suggestion. If you feel someone using both is important to the flavor of the class, that's cool, too.
