| Luega12-06-05, 02:58 PM | Yeah, I just realized that this is probably a much better place to post this than the DM board. Ah, the decisions, the decisions. So many choices. But anyways, I was reading through some of my Eberron books today, and there was something that caught my attention. Some of the NPCs had their CR increased because they had "above-normal" ability scores and/or equipment. And this got me thinking. I'm using 25 PtB in my campaigns. Would it be fair to offer the players to use a higher point total (for example 30) at character creation in exhange for a +1 LA? They would start with higher potential, but they wouldn't grow as quickly. |
| Mordred12-06-05, 03:23 PM | If you have access to savage species, take a look at how much of ability adjustment is worth a +1 ECL, but also know the following: - CR and ECL are very different things. - Being able to distribute ability points is better than getting them from a race, since you can use them in a more interesting way (think of an aasimar monk dropping +2 Cha in favor of +2 Dex). - Racial adjustments can take a character beyond 18, so they're somehow better than just more points to distribute. It's tricky, but I believe SS will help you calculate how much extra points to give. Just my 2CPs, Cheers |
