| The Simple Seeker II02-27-04, 11:22 AM | As stated in the UA book, the combination of two classes into one...is meant for a higher level and more powerful story setting. It is also meant, for mature and seasoned playes to use in this fashion, because they are familiar with the rules and mechanics of said game. Gestalts are not meant for a mundane setting...that was never their intent. Nor it was meant for a large group of players either...a small party of 2, 3 or 4 at the max is more preferred. But if your Dm and the players involved can handle the increase in danger and challenges, more power to you. For the younger players...it is there for you, when you reach the level of understanding of what is needed to face the greater challenges...not to be used like a Power Rangers show (brrrrrrrrrrrr), anyway...that is crux of the matter, and I hope that this can give some clarity to the potential mixup, although there shouldn't be anyway...since on the page of the Gestalts creation, it is stated in print, it is meant to be used for a major variant setting, unlike what is played normally. And yes, it does look broken in a way, but in true it is not...not in a HIGH-level campiagn....uber style. |

THere are any number of reasons to use Gestalt characters: 1) New people to the game who might not be sure what kind of character to play. They play two classes and get a feel for which aspect they like better 2) Small group of players who can't cover all the bases. This way you can have your tank, rogue, caster, and healer with only 2 players. 3) Experienced players looking for high-level adventure. Tired of multiclassing and taking PrC's for your abilities? Well try playing a rogue/wizard from the start. 4) Change of pace. Tired of doing the same thing all the time? Then start up a Gestalt campaign. Just remember, you may come across those Orc Barbarian/Druids :) |
