| DM Zoc02-28-04, 07:58 AM | The level 12 ability for the major titan bloodline allows the use of oversized weapons, as per the titan ability. The titan ability merely states that a titan can use a gargantuan warhammer (a one-handed weapon for a gargantuan creature) in two hands, at no penalty (would normally be a -2 penalty to be used in this way by a huge creature). This means one of two things: With some intepretation, this means that the ability allows you to ignore the -2 penalty for using wrong-sized weapons (though you would still use them in the same manner as a typical creature of your size). Literally, this ability means that the creature with titan blood can use a gargantuan warhammer in two hands at no penalty, even if the creature is a spryte or some-such. What say ye of this? |
| JoAT02-28-04, 09:21 AM | I'm a very nice person, and that one's been weirding me out for some time - personally, I'd just hand them the Weild Oversized Weapons feat from CW - I know it's epic and everything, but, like I said, I'm nice. Besides, it's what I think they were aiming for, intent-wise. |
| bolobaby02-28-04, 09:40 AM | Here's how I would rule the titan bloodline ability: The titan is size huge. The *two-handed warhammer* they are allowed to wield as a result of Oversized Weapon (Ex) is one size category larger than they are. Therefore... 1. Your character can only use this ability with a two-handed warhammer - same as a titan. This is probably because of the hammer being a favored weapon of titans or something. 2. Your character can wield a two-handed warhammer one size category larger than they are. 3. This ability would be able to stack with Monkey Grip, but you then take the -2 penalty. So... a medium character with this ability and Monkey Grip could wield a two-handed warhammer two size categories larger than he is in two hands at -2 to hit. Now - problem. There is no such thing as a two-handed warhammer, so-to-speak. What I think they mean is a normal warhammer that is one size category larger, but wielded in two hands. That is already covered. So what we are talking about - ultimately - is a normal warhammer that is two size categories larger, wielded in two hands, at -2 to hit (with Monkey Grip). Damage = 3d6. Ouch. Without Monkey Grip, 2d6 damage, no -2 to hit. |
| bolobaby02-28-04, 10:00 AM | Oh yeah... don't forget... Depending on how your DM rules, that warhammer weighs either 20lbs or 80lbs. For weapons between small and large, weight changes by a factor of two. There are no rules (that I know of) to handle weapons beyond those sizes. You can stick with the factor of 2 rule OR you can move to the factor of 8 rule that applies to spells like Enlarge Person or Shrink Item. Personally, I'd go with the rule of 8 past large size, otherwise weapons get unrealistically light. |
| Contrast02-28-04, 10:38 AM | I simply interpreted as the character gaining the abilty to wield weapons of a size catagory larger than itself without penalty. |
| bolobaby02-28-04, 10:46 AM | Originally posted by Contrast I simply interpreted as the character gaining the abilty to wield weapons of a size catagory larger than itself without penalty. That almost works, but you have to clarify that the effort used to wield the weapon changes - i.e. a one-handed weapon becomes a two-handed weapon. I chose to restrict it to hammers only because that's what the titan's ability specifically said. |
| DragonWatcher02-28-04, 12:07 PM | I agree with Contrast. You can wield a weapon one size category larger than you could normally wield without penalty. However, it becomes two handed. Despite the EXACT text in the titan description, I would not restrict this to hammers only. After all, we're already going against the exact text of the titan ability by not letting them wield a GARGANTUAN hammer... I think that you can feel free to interpret what weapons are usable too. Of course, the final decision is up to the DM. |
| gooru02-28-04, 12:21 PM | well... using the half-giant (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040215a&page=3) template and then make them of the titan bloodline. So, now they are considered huge for wielding purposes, but considered gargantuan for wielding the war hammer... so can they hold colossal two handed? If not, then give them a "Ring of Righteous Might," if used continually, it costs 90,000gp. Approach your DM with this character, I dare you:) |
| jedrious02-28-04, 12:29 PM | well I did approach my dm about this of course I added the half-minotaur template from dragon mag so no need for righteous might |
