I want to share a great idea my last DM had.
We were playing as part of a school seminar (yes we played D&D in school, that's how cool my high school was). Time was limited so we didn't want to spend much time bookkeeping. The DM had a great idea for tracking wealth and equipment. For money we used a set of four color poker ships. Yellow for gold, Green for Silver, Red for copper and Blue for platinum. (Or something like that:thinks: )

When we got some loot or a reward he would physically hand us the coins which we kept between games in our dice bags. For other equipment he printed out little cards about the size of table napkins. On each one you would write the item, it's weight, cost etc. If you lost it or used it up in the case of rations or arrows you would hand it back to the dm. When we got a reward or some booty, magical itmes with the whole writeup were given to us.

The whole thing worked out great. We weren't constantly erasing and re-writing and always knew what we had on hand. I highly recommend it to DM and Players alike.

I've heard similar ideas from a number of people, and it has worked out fine for them. I have yet to try it in my own group.

Another idea I have yet to try, if you have some time to burn, is to make tokens on transparencies for buffs. Same types of bonuses go on the same spot, so they overlay each other nicely. I'm not sure how well it would work in practice.

One of my friends told me that's what they do at GenCon.

I've been pondering this type of thing for awhile but one downside I see would be the MASSIVE amounts of chips you would need for money at higher levels and other such items that you have an abundance of.
