I'm going to be running an Eberron campaign in the not-too-distant future and one of my characters is going to be a Warforged Figher/Artificer/Spell-Carved Soldier (should be an interesting character). He wants his primary melee weapon to be a wrench (also the name of his character), and his secondary melee is going to be a screwdriver. The player tends to make interesting characters. At the moment I'm treating the wrench as a one-handed bludgeoning weapon (damage=club) and the screwdriver as a light piercing weapon (damage/cost=dagger 1 size category smaller than a dagger of an equal size (med dagger deals 1d4 damage, med screwdriver deals damage = small dagger) that can be thrown like a dagger. Do these sound okay to you? Give me your thoughts, opinions, etc. |

In fact, the primary concern of the screwdriver is to maximize torque. Should be fine for stabbing though. Aside from that, it looks fine. If a character were just picking up a tool, I'd assign a -4 non-proficiency penalty, but if that's the point of the character, it's fine to forego it. |

However, since that's the point of his character, it probably wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that he somehow managed to adjust it to be thrown. |

Otherwise, it's always nice to see DMs willing to set a few rules aside to let a player try something new and fun. ^_^ Thank you! This player tends to come up with interesting ideas and the concept sounds rather interesting. On a semi-related note: the racial substitution for warforged fighters has a d12. Would that be for the entire class or just for the substitution levels? |
