Personally I'm in favor of it as it makes logical sense, the fighter has learned many techniques and he learns of a form of focus he can achieve that makes him a better warrior, even lets him apparently sense his foes around him as well as heal quickly. I think that there should be some kind of cost in terms of gp or XP tied to the prereqs and I'm just wondering what others think of the idea. |
| Bohica05-16-06, 11:07 AM | I had a variant in which I allowed my players to gain an extra feat every other level, before advancing to the next level, starting at 1st Level. The cost of 500 xp per level of the character. I took away the free feats too though. It worked for us. Example. Level XP Cost for Extra Feat 1 500 3 1500 5 2500 7 3500 9 4500 Bohica |
| Steel Cobra05-16-06, 04:02 PM | I like this idea, but Bohica's idea, I don't like. I would have to say after time, and enough of it, and some XP for the player then he would have a feat. But as balance I would say plenty of XP and time devoted to getting the feat. Or else the players will need an additional page for the feats. Oh and with this take away items that grant feats |
| Archangel6205-17-06, 03:29 AM | I usually don't use items that grant feats, mostly because I find them to be far too annoying and arbitrary to really be worthwhile. If an intelligent item grants feats or it's something in that vein I don't worry so much tho' |

| Mufflon05-20-06, 10:21 AM | Hrm...the retraining feats might be a good guideline, make the training time 2-3 weeks and make the gold cost 6000...any ideas? I'd say the gold cost should be based on level, as low level characters could never afford 6000, but at level 20 6000 isn't really a lot of money |
| Archangel6205-21-06, 12:17 AM | Well, another thought is make the costs based on something like 500Xminimum level that the feat could be gained. |
| Melpomene05-21-06, 01:47 AM | Feat trees in D&D are... non-impressive. If you were going to base a monetary value on aquiring new feats, I'd recommend basing it on the charicter's previous feats (minus bonus and racial feats.) That is, the one at first level, the one at three, etc., and the ones the charicter has baught previously. |
| Shavit05-21-06, 02:36 AM | The whole idea behind levels and classes his to represent the so called "focus"es that the character gains in time and xp. The main issue is the lack of feats or incorrect choices that PCs make. Training for Additional feats while logical always disregards the point of xp and racial feats and skills, and the problem is that up untill now I have never saw a balanced system for training for additional feats, and DMs might abuse or accused for abusing such systems. Therefore I hardly recommand such systems. However, If I would have used such system I'll offer it a a class, such as Expert or such that the PC can choose his skills and tain on them and interwind it with feats and lower BAB to make it better as PC class. (PM me if you want forther infromation about such system) |
