IMC, we will be implementing the facing rules with the following changes: attacking anyone behind is -8 (not -10). And Sneak Attack can be delivered by attacking from the rear AND by a traditional flanking maneuver (using 2 attackers). Any thoughts or caveats?

We tried facing, and it works great except for sneak attack. Just letting characters sneak attack from a rear square basically means rogues can roll a DC 15 Tumble check to get behind someone and sneak attack every round i.e. rogues become too uber. Our house rule fix was to say characters needed an opponent in the front square to distract them as well, or the rogue could try to Feint using opposed Spot/Sleight of Hand instead of Sense Motive/Bluff, with standard penalty to Spot for being in a rear square.

Thank you, that's an excellent point. I may implement your house-rule along with our switch. Do you also still allow "flanking" in the core sense?

An old rule from Combat and Tactics is that creatures/characters got to change their facing for free once each turn. So a single rogue would not get a sneak attack in just by jumping around. If you were worried that this makes changing facing too easy, make it so it uses up an attack of opportunity to change facing (and still limit it to only once per turn).
