~Ultimate Jedi? Spell-deflection? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-01-07, 11:29 PM ~Ok, so I've made a character that is a super Jedi essentially. He's a Telepath, Ranger, Monk, Elocater, Human Paragon, Illithid Slayer and I've come to a crossroads.

~In the Complete Mage there is the Spell Deflect class feature. It allows the Monk/ Rogue to deflect ranged spells that miss. It can be used 1+Dex Mod/ Day.
~Couple o' questions. One, for a Monk would it be possible to use 1+Wis Mod/ Day?
If so then with the Ascetic Psion can you use Int?

This would mean that my character with the +1 Shocking Deep Crystal Hideaway Longsword can deflect the scorching rays back at the opponents.

10-02-07, 11:12 AM Ok, well no, you can't just arbitrarily change around key abilities. Sorry.

You could ask your DM to make a house rule. I'd suggest a feat that would allow you to use your wisdom in place of your dexterity for the purposes of spell deflection. That'd be about balanced.

But in any event and for future reference, these boards can't give you permission to break the rules. If you're trying to go behind your DMs back to get approval for something you know to be of dubious legality, then... well, you're smart enough to know where I'm goin' with this. Don't do that, OK?

10-02-07, 01:31 PM No, you can't just change it...but you may be able to convince the DM that it's worth a feat to accomplish.
There are some precedent for that; Kung Fu Genius allows Int to replace a monk's wis for AC/Stun etc...Plus there are several feats that re-allocate base modifiers for saves as well.

Dragon Mag Compendium has ths Arcanopath Monk PrC; which has a Reflect ability at lvl 9 that uses wis modifier. That may help your cause for comparison's sake.

10-02-07, 10:22 PM ~Well, that's the reason I'm asking on the boards. Our DM is not very good, gives us way too much stuff, uses his story line like what he thinks should happen, but most importantly, he succumbs easily to whatever me and my friend says, because we have a lot more knowledge about DnD. He would let me do whatever I want, and I don't want to cheat my way so my character is perfect.
~I ask here for some people that know what they're talking about.
