| Nani?01-03-05, 04:17 PM | I know there is no such critter. But if there were what would you want in there? 1. More sorcerer varients, I love the concept but this class lacks flavor. 2. Perhaps some varients on the classes presented in the complete series, like spirit shamans, swashbucklers etc. 3. Perhaps rule varients that focus on mixed race/cultural backgrounds. 4. Feats that they have been reluctant to reprint because of game balance issues that might not apply in every campiagn. For example, there is a feat in Rokugan that allows you to add two skills to your class list. I suspect it has not been reprinted because it would make it easier to enter PrC. If your only useing a limited number of PrC's this is no longer an issue. 5. Guidelines for handleing issues that incorporate unforseen circumstances in useing UA varients with other rules. For example, My Divine Bard wishes to enter the Wonderworker PrC in BoED. On one hand the rules say she is a divine caster (and gets better benfits). On the other hand the PrC was not designed with that Bards coming in as Divine Spellcasters in mind. All the best, Nani? |
| Degobah01-03-05, 06:13 PM | More Racial Paragon classes- possibly for some of the variant races like desert kobolds or arctic dwarves, and for monsters. A Human bloodline. More generic character bonus feats to expand what you can make. More flaws and spelltouched feats. Mostly I liked the character creation sections and would like more of those. |
| penchant01-04-05, 03:57 AM | I want warmachines. siege engines, titanic robots, wargalleys, etc. I want D&D writeups for the big stuff they have in Warhammer! |
| JohnSnow01-04-05, 01:16 PM | MORE stuff! Bigger changes! Thanks to Unearthed Arcana, I have a pretty good sense of how to make minor changes. What I want is the book that tells me how to make MAJOR ones. Specifically, I want more variant variants. Let's see them include stuff for campaigns that are both lower magic and higher magic than normal! Also, some information for how to balance campaigns where certain changes get made. Andy Collins has been kicking around ideas in his homebrew Umber Campaign. Let's see the official WotC take. And of course, UA 2 should be mostly OGL, just like the first one. |
| Avalongod01-04-05, 01:25 PM | Excellent post idea! I would like to see more bloodlines, perhaps some bloodlines made more flexible so that you can choose between certain abilities at certain levels. More tactical feats, fighting style feats as well. An expansion of traits, flaws and spelltouched feats. More options for switching out elements of one base class in exchange for others (at a reasonable penalty for doing so). I would also like to see rule options for further customizing fighters. If a fighter plans on a fighting style that does not use certain types of heavy armor or shields, perhaps these could be exchanged for other fighter bonus feats. |
| JohnSnow01-04-05, 01:37 PM | Hear, hear Avalongod! Actually, I'd rather see the "class design" rules WotC uses broken down and given out. That way we can fiddle with variant classes to our hearts' content. I'll second more tactical feats, fighting style feats, and more "options" for high-level fighters as well. Let's see a D&D version of the (potentially stackable) defense bonus introduced in the Wheel of Time game. Unearthed Arcana is the book that (imho) put magic back into D&D. I was nervous, because the first book by this name was so influential this one had a lot to live up to. And it surpassed its namesake. Quite an achievement. |

If a fighter plans on a fighting style that does not use certain types of heavy armor or shields, perhaps these could be exchanged for other fighter bonus feats. Thanks. BTW I here is my example of useing the bloodlines creatively, (in this case to modify the Sorcerer, which I think is underpowered. 1. Each Sorcerer would start with a minor bloodline. They would not have to buy the "bloodline" levels. 2. Any skill bonused on the list would be a class skill even if the character had not acquired the bonus yet. 3. Any spell on the list is considered a sorcerer spell and may take it at the appropriate level. If they already have the spell when they get it as a bonus spell, they may add another spell from the wizard/sorcerer list. The once per day is replaced and this spell is added to the spells known. 4. The character may "switch out" one ability from an intermediate or major bloodline to make this option more "sorcerer" friendly. They must be the same type; skill bonus for skill bonus, feat for feat. For example, someone with a celestial bloodline may replace the wisdom bonus at 12th level with the charisma bonus on the intermediate or major bloodlines. 5. As a feat, the sorcerer may replace the minor bloodline with an intermediate bloodline. They may now "switch out" two abilities. I personally would not allow a player to increase this to major bloodline. 6. The DM may allow the player to design their own "bloodline". This may not be a bloodline per say but something to represent the "glimmer" of magical ability. This would have to be closely monitored. 7. This option would replace Draconic feats. But those feats could be used as bloodline replacements, and not always as "Draconic" abilities. For example, draconic flight could be used as an air elemental option and draconic claw could be a lycanthrope bloodline option. Thats just one example, All the best, Nani |
| Ranger REG01-04-05, 10:18 PM | Let's see a D&D version of the (potentially stackable) defense bonus introduced in the Wheel of Time game. Just declare it "stackable." If not, use the Modern System Reference Document for ideas. I mean, come on, D&D gamers! There is no lack of resources out there. I like to think that D&D gamers are just as smart as those GURPS players, or if I had to scrape from the bottom of the barrel, smart as Magic: The Gathering TCG players. |
| neilthrun01-09-05, 07:21 PM | More racial paragon classes, Its totally dumb that half-dragons get a paragon class(really how many halfdragons are there?) and that there are no kobold, goblin, or ogre paragon classes. |
| dralin01-09-05, 10:36 PM | More Ranger and Druid varients. And actually i play a Half-Dragon on a regular basis. |
| Lord_Anthrax01-11-05, 12:34 PM | Some variants for Psionic characters, and more material on Gestalts, and how about some stuff for Epic play? |
| Zagan01-11-05, 02:35 PM | MORE stuff! Bigger changes! sounds to me like D&D 4.0 |
| Ut-Napishtim01-11-05, 03:28 PM | Unearthed Arcana is the book that (imho) put magic back into D&D. I was nervous, because the first book by this name was so influential this one had a lot to live up to. And it surpassed its namesake. Quite an achievement. I don't know if I'd go that far, but at least it was worth the $40. And actually i play a Half-Dragon on a regular basis. Congratulations, would you like a cookie? That's one thing I actually miss from the older editions of the game, the frequency ratings for monsters. Dragons used to be rare, phenomenal beings, now they pull rickshaws around Faerun for fun and profit and sire legions of mutant offspring with everything from Bugbears to Troglodytes. :yuck: |
| TheCarrionCrawler01-11-05, 11:58 PM | Great thread! I would love more paragon, bloodlines, and some Psionic varients...They are making a DMG 2...if it sells well, maybe we'll get a UA 2 as well! |
| Tenzhi01-12-05, 02:47 AM | That's one thing I actually miss from the older editions of the game, the frequency ratings for monsters. Hear! Hear! Such would also put a damper on multi-sneak-attacks-per-round proponents whose main argument seems to be that the majority of monsters you run into are immune to critical hits as the majority of those monsters they say you'll commonly run into are supposed to be Rare! But I digress. I would like variant Epic and Divine/Godly rules in a sequel myself. |
