| DragonsArt07-11-04, 02:16 AM | I am playing a monk in our next campaign and would like some suggestions on ideas and/or feats. My stats are: Str 15 Dex 14 Con 12 Int 11 Wis 16 Cha 10 I am trying to get the DM to allow a modified version of the Hand and Foot fighting style in UE called Scorpion Strike, giving me: Stunning Fist, Combat Reflexes and Improved Trip, and ending with a +2 bonus to trip and a +4 bonus against trip. I'm also trying to trade an exotic weapon proficiency and a simple weapon proficiency for guisarme proficieny (non flurry) as part of the fighting style. So far, my idea for feats are: 1st: Unarmed Strike*, Stunning Fist*, Jotenbrud, Unbalancing Strike 2nd: Combat Reflexes* 3rd: Expert Tactician or Intuitive Strike 4th: +1 WIS (for 18 and +4, giving me a +4 to hit with Init strike) 5th: 6th: Improved Trip*, Improved Natural Attack Any ideas of bloodlines, etc. that would help? Are they worth it? What about paragon classes? |

| DragonsArt07-13-04, 08:41 AM | Yes... at level 6, I'll have the following: +4 - Jotunbrud +4 - Improved Trip +2 - Scorpion Style +3 - Strength For a total of +13 on trip attacks. Since I'm using a guisarme, I was thinking about taking Deft Oppurtunist, giving me a +4 on attacks of oppurtunity. No matter what, I still can't beat a fighter at level 6 with damage. I human fighter/barbarian with a 16STR can do: 1st - Dodge (1st level), Mobility (human), Combat Expertise (fighter) 2nd - Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Spiked Chain) 3rd - Weapon Focus (Spiked Chain) 4th - Spring Attack 5th - 6th - Whirlwind Attack /1st level Barbarian So at 6th level, the fighter will be F5/B1, have 5d10+1d12 hit points and be able to attack every creature within 10' at (6 + 3 + 1) = +10 attack, raging, that bumps up to +12. A monk just can't compete with that. |
| Rend07-14-04, 10:19 PM | A monk's special abilities are supposed to give him/her the upper hand in higher levels. Sure now in the lower levels a fighter can spank your character when fighting one on one. Same thing with a magic user...the patheticly weak in the lower levels, but once they hit the "teen" levels...that fighter better be on the wiz/sor good side otherwise he's toast. So you just have to wait it out as far as being able to deal decent damage. Besides you still have Flurry of blows right? Overall, your unarmed damage increases as you level up in monk and you have F.O.B. so it evens out. |
