Have any of you ever mixed D20 Modern with D&D. What were the pitfall and hassles? How did you over come them?

I'm guessing that the biggest obstacles would be the two different class systems, D20 modern characters getting a defense bonus that goes up with levels, and modern firearms vs. fantasy armor.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm working on a world where the history includes an event where hundreds of thousands of people from WWII are transplanted to a D&D fantasy world/setting. Kind of a Weird Wars period in the fantasy world's history that could be an interesting campaign.

I don't own Unearthed Arcana at the moment, but I understand there are rules in it concerning class defense bonus, armor acting as DR. How useful is UA in solving this particular problem?

UA has both Armor as DR, and Class Defense Bonus rules, with comentary on how to integrate the two into the same game, as well as the major things to be aware in terms of impact to the typical D&D game. (For example, many spells in D&D use the target's touch AC, which is much higher under the Class Defense Bonus system) While the material presented in UA on those subjects is set up for supporting the classes and armors in the Player's Handbook, they do give guidelines on how you would convert splatbook material.

You may also be interested to know, that UA also has rules for incorporating Action Points into a D&D game.

You thief!!!!!! I'm combining them!!!!!!!!

Heh, great minds think alike.

I'm also trying to get them to be allowed as rules for use at the guildhouse, so I've got a few more constraints to work with. (And we've even added in trying to combine SWRPG as well. Yikes.) Most of my ideas are here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=358214) so far.

In short, I'm using the following:

Defense Bonus: With a modified chart (I'll find that later for you). Rather than the UA version where you can level-dip in fighter for the best defense bonus, you add the defense bonuses of your classes together. Leaning towards Armor and Defense not stacking.
Action Points: D&D classes get them as presented in UA. Modern classes get the points stated in the class.
Reputation: I'll have to change the chart presented though.

Limit on Enchantment: In D&D, weapons can get a +5 enhancement bonus and other enchantments totalling upto +10. From my survey of the SRD (I have yet to get a credit card so I can't by a nice, cheap copy of Modern of the net yet.) there aren't any weapons with an enhancement of more than +3 so I'm going along those lines to limit how magical magic items can be based on how technologically advanced they are. The Progress Levels are presented in d20 Future and are in the Modern SRD as well.

I'm still working on the concept of wealth and what to do with all that money.
I probably won't allow multiclassing between the two systems except for PrCs.

Really great work.

The way I'd work wealth would depend on location. In modern setting I'd use the wealth bonus stuff. In a fantasy setting I'd use plan old "what ye gots in ye's pockets".

The wealth bonus seems more like a credit score, whereas D&D portrays a less "money" sophisticated time... "What do ye mean 'put on ye's tab'? I runs me Inn on coin, nay tabs! Ye best show some copper before I forget me's manners and breaks thees thumbs as I would a thief!"

I mixed a D&D world and starwars (the world was just on the rim.) The only things I did to make it work is the armor as dr, class defence, 1gold=100cr, and magic and force interact. What I mean by force interact is if something gives you a bounes to resist one it does to both. A antimagic spell will make you amune to the force.
