| The Abominable Darkling08-07-05, 12:08 AM | What do you think of the following rule? If a weapon attack misses its target but the attack roll is still high enough to hit the target's touch AC, then the target is hit and takes half damage. Halve the damage before applying any additional defences the target may have (such as damage reduction). |

If you had Full Plate on, unless it was a real hit, I don't see why the damage would not be negated since full plate blocks most attacks anyway. I like this variant though |
| Kintara08-07-05, 02:32 AM | Hmm, I'd give each armor a penetration number. Attacks that hit the armor as previously described take half damage from that attack, minus the penetration number. This means low damage attacks will still be stopped, partially or fully. I also think it's still harsh enough to have the intended effect. Finally, it adds some definition to the levels of protection each armor gives. |
| The Abominable Darkling08-07-05, 02:35 AM | So a guy in +5 fullplate would effectively have damage reduction 13 versus attacks that beat his touch AC? I like it. |
| Kintara08-07-05, 02:39 AM | So a guy in +5 fullplate would effectively have damage reduction 13 versus attacks that beat his touch AC? I like it.Sure, that works. It can be any number, really, but making it equal to the armor's AC bonus makes it nice and easy. |
| Kintara08-07-05, 02:48 AM | Are you going to add anything to improve characters' touch AC? Keep in mind that, in this system, almost everyone will be hitting for half damage with every attack, at high levels. You might want to add a class defense bonus. |
| Dunelord08-07-05, 02:59 AM | Not to sound like a jerk but I really think this is a horrible, horrible idea. High level melee chracters get hit all the time anyway, and anything that allows more damage to get through makes them weaker, and makes stand in the back casters that much cooler. I mean the Fighter and the Barbarian are already far enough behind in power. |

Actually, as you say, most enemies hit anyway. The big, scary monsters tend to be all Natural Armor, so the Fighter would hit with every attack, too, now. I'm not judging the idea, just yet, I'm too tired for that ;), but it is a big change, and most assuredly has unforseen consequences. |

After you 1/2 damage and apply the Damage Reduction most creatures have the net gain to creatures damage being far less then to the PCs. |
| TLomon08-07-05, 09:55 PM | What about the armor taking damage instead of the player? Wasn't there something similiar to this in 1st edition UA? |
