Variant wizard builds & Sorcerers & Spell Points. [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-12-04, 10:42 AM While I liked some of the variant specilized wizards in UA, some of them struck me as more appropriate for another use. The same goes for the arcane domains.

I thought it would be a good way to add flavor to the sorcerer, espesially if you use the spell point system, to give the sorcerer something to make up for loosing some of his turf to other casters. With the addition of a type of spontaneous casting to wizards & clerics using spell points. Give the sorcerer use of the arcane domains & the variant specialist wizrds abilities most closely associated with the domain. This can represent lineage/bloodline, or just the sorcerer's natural inclanations. Giving a sorcerer the divination domain & The Enhanced Awareness variant would be something like the spying witch. Always watching out for others, a fortune teller/gypsy.

The variations for the most part struck me as somebody that has a feel for that area of magic, rather than gained his abilities from intense study in the field. Some work that way, but some variants just feel more like a domain sorcerer to me.

03-12-04, 06:12 PM I wish I could find the link but Count Arioch the 28th did already propose this idea about domain sorcerers. In fact, when I read that section it almost seemed like they meant to do it for sorcerers as I'm having a hard time believing anyone thinks the wizard is under-powered.

In spell point system or otherwise, I love the idea of domain sorcerers.

08-02-04, 04:49 PM I like this idea but think I'm going to go with the Bloodline feats from Dragon #311 (which have a lot more flavor IMHO) instead but not charge a feat for it since they also have a drawback. This would be a required choice at character creation so they would have "Bloodline" as a class feature at 1st level. Then, perhaps, every 5 or 10 levels, give a bonus feat similar to a wizard but make it only usable for further bloodline feats. The Dragon article has a few feats in the feat tree but probably there would have to be more created (+1 caster level to all spells of the same energy type as your bloodline for example). This would make progression in the base sorcerer (or battle sorcerer in our case) class more rewarding.
