The idea comes from the concept that no matter how slowly an elf would take doing something while growing up, a 100-year-old elf should know more then a 15 year human.

I plan on using (a version of) the Injury system with 3 player all playing elves, so I’m going to let basic elves be better then others without giving any LA.

I was going to let the players start at 5th level to represent what they’d learned while growing up. But after finding and liking the Injury system, I realized that the difference between a few levels didn’t make as much as a difference as before. So if a character had a few levels of commoner/expert/aristocrat/warrior (and if they’re special: racial paragon) it wouldn’t be too overpowering. I also don't think that this would work as well using HP.

I plan on letting the players start with 5 level of Elf paragon (good going Jaerom Darkwind) and 1 class level. The paragon levels to represent what the elves learned growing up. Although in this case, since they’re all a type of wood elf having grown up in a village I’ll be replacing the wizard caster levels with druid/cleric/sorcerer.

I'll be aiming for a CR of 6, but if they had levels in commoner or expert then I'd probably aim for 3-4.

There are still aspects to this that I need to consider, but some of the ideas that I have are:
Human NPC: 1 level of commoner, expert, aristocrat or warrior for every 5 years after age 15. So an average 35-year-old blacksmith (expert) would be level 5.

I don’t have a clue how I would balance a mixed party of humans and elves, so just happy that my player are willing to all be elves this time.

I think that the best part of the concept is having average character with levels in commoner to represent their background.

These are just my late night thought and ideas, I’m hoping that I’ll get a few ideas or suggestions.

Sean K. Reynolds posted an article on his web iste presenting the idea that commoners and ssuch would face the equivelent of a CR 1 challenge almost every month, enough to say 1,000 XP each year. If you further assume that the elders would then move into facing other, more difficult challenges (finding the right groupd of adventures to face the dragon, etc...) then they might be able to pass 8th level.

This works better for figuring out human commoners than it does for longer lived races, but it is a start.
