Here is the Quick fix I came up with to address what happens when a target is reduced to 0 wounds and takes addtitional wound damage.

Simply say that when a target is reduced to 0 wounds, if it takes wound damage equal to its current Con score from a single attack it is dead. No saves.

Two ways you could do this.

First, allow the damage from the attack that reduced the target to 0 wounds flow through to equal the Targets Current Con score to kill them on that attack.

Example if a Hill Giant was at 10 wound points left and Con 19, and was hit with a fireball that did 34 points of wound damage the Hill Giant would be dead due to the flow through damage.
10-34=24 which is greater than the giants con score of 19. Dead

The Second way is not to allow flow through damage from the attack that reduces the target to 0 Wounds. The damage stops at 0 wounds as normal. The difference is if the Hill Giant is hit with any attack that does 19 wound damage it is dead. No saves. Regardless of what stage it is at. Disabled dying ect.

So using the above example, the Hill Giant with the 10 wound points and 19 con would not be killed from the attack. The Fireball would reduce the Hill Giant to 0 wounds 10-34=-24. Remember no flow through damage so the damage stops at 0 wounds. Hill Giant would make fortitude save as normal Dc 15. However, the difference is that now if the Hill Giant is hit with any single attack that does 19 wounds (equal to its current con) it is dead regardless of what stage it is in. No Saves.

One way is more cinematic. No flow through damage.
The other is more gritty. Flow through damage.

This is just my quick fix to prevent wound damage not mattering after being reduced to 0 wounds.

There has been some discussion about the Fortitude save of 15 whne reduced to 0 Wounds.

My take is this, even if you make the save you are still at disabled. If you take any streneous action your condition goes to dying. No saves. Then you are unconscious ie helpless

So even a very high fortitude only buys you a couple of rounds at best.
