| Grim Aramis02-15-05, 09:12 PM | Hi! Some time ago I searched these forums and happened upon a XP discussion thread that tried to come up with alternate XP systems for DnD. The first post in the thread had two interesting variants, which one were the XP table in the Unearthed Arcana (similar to AD&D 2nd Ed) and one more which included giving XP each day. Do anybody have any clue which thread I am talking about and can give me a link to this, or perhaps just quote the first page of this thread (which had the conclusion of the discussion). Yes, I have searched - to death. But Im unable to find it, stupid thing. :) :| |
| Grim Aramis02-16-05, 09:38 PM | Urgh, come on - someone must know what Im talking about. :) Im a bit worried - switched to DnD a while ago and I think, personally, that players progress in levels a bit to quickly. I dont mind someone going from Level 1 to 3 through a short campaign, but I think it went absurdly fast in DnD :) (Disclaimer: This is my playstyle and liking, and from what I can understand the players generally agree). |
| Ryfaen02-18-05, 11:24 PM | Fast? We've had campaigns run off/on for years with characters only reaching level 5. Leveling too fast? Then maybe you are giving them too much exp for the level of critter they are going after? Or, they aren't RPing enough and need to be smacked down for rushing :D |
| Grim Aramis02-19-05, 02:35 AM | Nah, actually they leveled "right out of the book" which was a tad to quick to my liking :) I prefer the old AD&D style, where my players had a 1.5 year long campaign and ended on 11th level =) |

I have found that you can set a certain pace for xp based on the number of sessions you want for each level. The DMG says that each level should take roughly 13 encounters, so you might use that as a base. Take the level's xp needed and divide by 13, or whatever you see fit and hand that out per session. Adjust up or down based on roleplaying or challenges faced. This really works out well for my group and it is fantastically easy on the DM. :b: |
| Grim Aramis02-19-05, 03:06 AM | Guess I will go that way as well :) It was just one thing in that thread I wanted to take an itsy look at, a suggestion regarding a set amount of XP per day, which sounded nice to me, and some other details which I cant remember. I like the idea about XP each day (which wouldnt be a problem to me, as I do a small Log on what the players do anyway). |
