The Water Halfling and Water Orc in Unearthed Arcana both have an bonus +2 Con inaddition to their normal changes without anything else being changed. This just doesn't seem correct since every other change in the book at lest balances any changes out, with either an addition -2 to another stat or just moving the +2 to the new stat. The only line of logic I see in this somewhat unbalancing adjustment is because the water races get an -2 to saves vs fire spells (or fire subtype mages). Now all the 'elemental' touched race variants got an -2 all saves vs spells of the opposing element or casted by people with the opposed element subtype. With that said, the only reason I can see them favoring the water races is if they felt that fire spells were the most likely to be encountered and felt they deserved an extra boast since other races are less likely to encounter water, earth, or air. Now hopefully someone out there has better reasoning then me, or just knows the answers (since I didn't see an errata when I looked). |

However, I reccommend you ignore water/underground/flying/deep woods/volcanic/ice/amphibious/mountain variations of every race. Noteably, water halflings and orcs, and about half of the elf subraces. But, as far as the con thing goes, either you're the player or the Dm. If you're the player, you're wrong and you can stop worrying about it. If you're the DM, you're right, but if the player doesnt like it, permanantly drain his con through heavy poisoning of some kind so he gets the point. |

A player had lost their character sheet and was making a new one and was looking throught my Unearthed Arcana and we noticed that the Water Races had extra con, I wasn't the DM but suggested that he shouldn't use the water races since I was believing there was an error either printed or left out that an errata would clearly correct. Since there was no outstanding Errata to clear it out I came here since was unable to find anything on water halflings. |
