| hammertyme04-18-04, 07:46 PM | In our weekly game we recently ran across a rather deadly combo. F The setup: We use the vitalizing magic rules combined with spell points. That meaning that after you reach 2/3rd of your spell points you are fatigued, and 1/3rd of your spell points you are exhausted. The Normal dnd rules are that if you are fatigued and you Fatigue yourself again you become exhausted, and if you do it again you are knocked out. The 5th level spell wave of fatigue does not have a saving throw, it is an area effect, and it makes you fatigued The 7th level Spell Wave of exhaustion is the same but it makes you exhausted. Now if one uses the spell as written a 9th level caster can reduce all enemies in a 30 ft area spell points by 1/3rd and then if the same foes spend enough points to reduce him/her to 1/3rd of his max then he is exhausted. Use Wave of exhaustion instead (13th level) and that reduces all Casters to 1/3rd of there total and if they spend enough Spell points to fatigue themselves (mainly only if your muliclassed) then they drop unconscious. Not a bad combo but even as a player I think that those spells have such a major effect on casters that it might be called 'broken' (if something can be called broken with 2 house rules attached to them) In our game we all agreed that the spells in question all now have a fort save to negate, we thinking will save but it is necromancy and we did not want to ruin the spells entirely. Just Wanted to get your opinions on this and to get the word out those who have not found this particular setup of spells and rules. |

| hammertyme04-21-04, 06:16 PM | We decided that the fatigue/exhaustion caused by lose of magic points cannot be cured by magic, And that the exhaustion caused by mundane means does not reduce spell points. On the flip side we also decided fatigue caused by magic such as the above spells does not effect total spell points except to lower ones Fatigue level. So while the spells above would lower ones fatigue level your maximum spell points would remain the same but if you spent enough to fatigue yourself (2/3rds max) you would be exhausted. Muliclassed casters (such as my character) have to make sure they don’t knock them selves Unconscious by becoming fatigued from spending spell points in both classes, and these spells can cause that same charactor problems. |
