| Rethis01-28-05, 02:08 AM | I'm sure this question exists somewhere on this forum, but seeing as the search is down and I've looked and can't seem to find anything.... Does anyone have any thoughts on using Weapon Groups with Multiclassing? For instance, I have a 1st level Rogue, and at 2nd level I decide to pick up Fighter. Would this character gain any additional weapon groups? I'm not seeing this scenario in the rules text (pp 94-7 for anyone playing at home). The most reasonable option I can think is to give the character two extra weapon groups so he has the same number of total weapon groups as the fighter. (Rogue = Basic + 2, Fighter = Basic + 4) If this is redux, could someone please post a link to the related post? Much appreciated, Rethis [EDIT: Fixed typo] |

(Rogue = Basic + 2, Fighter = Basic + 4)Yes, this has been discussed before, and the general concensus has been that weapon groups overlap rather than stack. Basically handle it just as you've outlined (Rogue/Fighter := Basic +4). You'll also have to decide how you handle Monk and Druid weapon groups when they multiclass (I treat them as seperate from the general overlap rule). |

I count how many the new class gives, how many the character has(minus feats) and give the difference if positive. |
| Thelon Fairblade02-03-05, 09:20 AM | Actually, I looked this up about 2 months ago. The consensus at that time was "if the new class has more weapon groups than you currently have, you gain *1* weapon group". So gaining a level of fighter grants only 1 Weapon Group (although it brings along all those tasty armor profs!). |
| Rethis02-05-05, 02:11 PM | Thanks for the good feedback! I personally like the "overlap vs. stack" method, but my DM will probably lean towards the "just add 1" method. We currently do just drag along armor profs. We also don't allow monks or druids to choose- never made sense why monks don't have 'monk weapons' as one of their freebees. -Rethis |
