| pazrael04-18-04, 06:44 AM | I'm new to this board. And i could need some help, i want to use the VP/WP rule to my Campaign, but i didn't find a rule how to handle Spells that deal damage (not touch attacks), like Fireball. How can a Spell like that lower Wound points, or does anyone have an crit system for Spells? |
| Wil_Hyral04-18-04, 03:48 PM | I wish I had my book on me, but the only "crit" system I can imagine right now is whether a save is passed or failed. If someone fails a reflex vs. a fireball, they might take 10d6 fire damage to their wound points (!). Again, I'm not sure. That's just what I'm imagining. My book is 19 miles thataway from me right now. |
| DragonWatcher04-18-04, 04:04 PM | Using VP/WP spells that do not require an attack roll to hit always deduct their damage from Vitality Points, until Vitality is completely depleted. Overflow then falls to wounds. Ray attacks, and any other spells that require a roll to hit (even ranged touch attacks) can score a critical hit. On all criticals, damage goes right to Wound Points. So, nope, while you have Vitality, a fireball will NEVER deal 6d6 directly to Wounds. However, it does make ranged touch attacks more deadly. |

Thats why i need an rule, my casters are gonna say something like "Hey DM why can't i make WP Damage, only with Rays and Touch Attacks" and i'm gonna says "DM Choice, Shut Up" BTW excuse my english |

| Salla04-19-04, 10:07 PM | First, I advise the 'sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander' approach. If the PCs can deal direct wound damage with Fireballs, so can the NPCs. It's a matter of game balance, really. |
| Kesh04-20-04, 06:32 PM | Keep in mind that your average NPC enemies won't have VP at all. So, all your fireball damage will still go straight to WP on those orc Warriors. :) It's only your non-humanoids that are really going to soak it, or those humanoids with full PC class levels. |
