Shouldn't the be an SRD for Unearthed Arcana since it is part of the OGL???

Not really, after all, is all the OGL stuff out there in the SRD?

As far as I know (and I could be very easily wrong) they are not intending to put UA into the SRD.

I'll still buy the book.

The whole point of the SRD is to show what is and is not OGL. The PHB isn't OGL, so they put most of it in the SRD to be OGL. As all of UA is already OGL, they're not going to lose money by printing it on the web.

If they have already designated what is OGC in the Unearthed Arcana right there in the book, why spend additional time and resource making SRD material from that book?

OGL does not equal SRD.

The SRD is the core mechanics for D&D, basically, the three main books with specific things, and flavor-text, stripped out. The SRD is required for making d20 games.

OGL material is not part of the core mechanics. While it can be used in other books (as long as you credit properly), it isn't actually part of the 'core' system, therefore, should NOT be in the SRD.

It may seem a bit odd that while WotC did produce the Unearthed Arcana, and that normally anything else that's 'open game' gets added to the SRD, this is a necessary exception. The UA has no place in the core mechanics, everything it has or does is specifically -NOT- core.

Just remember, if you're writing a d20 supplement yourself, you can use anything you like from the UA, as long as you credit properly.

This gives me hope -- perhaps a fool's hope -- that Andy Smith would get around to adding Oriental Adventures material into the SRD. :D

Keep in mind that most of those extra rules waited a year or more before going into the SRD. I'd expect it to be at least that long, if ever, before UA gets added to the SRD. And I'm not holding my breath.

Try never.

Again, unlike the other copyrighted books, this is the first WotC's print book that contains more than half of its content designated OGC, with an OGL attached.

Why would they waste time and resource extracting them and putting them in the SRD re-designating them OGC?

Don't wait 2, 4, 10 years for the book's material to added. Don't even think there is a possibility. WotC have other copyrighted books to extract.

The Epic rules, Deity rules, and -some- of the feats and spells, were added to the 3.5 core books, and thus, to the SRD. A huge amount of other information in those sections were NOT added.

Psionics was added to the SRD in response to the -very- loud outcry from the psionics portion of the community back with the original PsiHB came out. It was originally NOT to be in the SRD.

The UA will almost undoubtedly NOT be added to the SRD. But, since it is ALL OGL, it doesn't matter.

I have actually discussed the matter with Andy Smith - he's said that he has no current plans to add UA to the SRD, but will do so if there is enough demand.

Later!

What demand?

Any self-respecting publishers would just buy UA like the rest of us. I'm sure they can spare $35 (US) out of their business profit.

So if the UA is OGL, it would not be illegal to literally put some of the rules on these boards?

P.S. I'm interested in the undead turning variant

No, UA is completely open content, afaik.

If they aren't adding UA to the SRD, we can always do it ourselves.
I have UA, I may just see whats open content in it, and write up my own SRD for it. Eh, maybe not, that sounds like a lot of work...

It's been discussed before. it would not be illegal, provided you amended your posted info with the OGL and complied with the OGL when you did so. That makes it a bit more complicated than just typing the rules out.

WotC probably won't mind, then again I don't speak for WotC. If you can distinguish the Open Game Content from the rest of the book's material, and used only those OGC, you should be okay.
