| cowdragon02-17-04, 01:07 AM | I can finally make my full caster progression Dragon Diciple. Just really happy...that's all. The Cowdrsgon :mage: |
| Xeviat-DM02-17-04, 02:08 AM | And how is that? Pretty vague for those of us that haven't gotten the book yet. |
| cowdragon02-17-04, 02:13 AM | I don't have it yet either, but from what people are saying about the gestalt character classes I can at last see how it is possible. The Cowdragon :mage: |
| Xeviat-DM02-17-04, 02:20 AM | Or you can just be a half-dragon sorcerer. Just look at half-dragon monster class progression (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20030912a) to see how to do it slowly without hurting yourself in the hp department. You'll be better off this way too for the most part, only have to give up 4 levels and it's legitimate within core rules. |
| stone_dog02-17-04, 02:30 AM | Maybe. You would have to still qualify for the PrC, so you would need to fill up those levels somehow. For arguments sake you could take Sorc and Fighter all the way up to 5th level. Then switch over to dragon disciple and sorcerer for the rest of the levels. By the time you hit 15th, you would have Fighter 5/ Sorc 15/ Dragon Disiple 10. 5 of your hit dice would be d10s, the other 10 would be d12s. BAB would be 13/8/3 (I think). Saves also get a little wonky when we are talking about multiclassing in gestalts like that. I think some sage advice is in order from the Staff as to how you do that. It gets kinda wierd. when you start doing that. |
| Dartanel02-17-04, 03:32 AM | The main problem with saying 'take 4 levels of half dragon' is that you just can't 'take' 4 levels of half dragon. You have to start that way (which puts off your spellcasting) or have the DM magically give you some mcguffin of race transformation. It's too unreliable to just put into a build. As for the Gestalt character. Essentially you'd work out best by going sor for each of your levels. Then the other class you take each level would be 5 melee -> 10 dragon disciple -> 3 half-dragon Paragon -> 2 levels of something else melee oriented. Optionally (or not so optionally) you could replace sor levels with another PrC that gave +1 caster levels. |
| Greyman02-17-04, 06:15 AM | Dartanel, take a look at the (LINK (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20030912a)), which Xeviat-DM provided. Taking four levels in a template class is possible if you use Sean Reynold's Template Classes, which are an adaptation of Savage Species' Monster Class concept. I'm not sure how that idea would mix with Gestalt classes though. Could you gestalt a Monster/Template Classes with a base class? How does LA and Gestaling interact anyway? I'd expect that Monster/Template classes would work better with the rules for reducing LA. |

How dare I expect the rules to be consistent? :) Anyway, I knew exactly what he was talking about. Just missed that tiny clause in the first Savage progressions article. |
| strenoth02-17-04, 10:15 AM | cowdragon, gestalt character classes are for gestalt-only campaigns because they are over-the-top, for use if youw nated to play a high powered game with only 1 or 2 players. |
| cowdragon02-17-04, 01:07 PM | Sad for the Cowdragon...god for the game though. Oh well. :( The Cowdragon :mage: |
| Zaebos02-22-04, 06:06 PM | You can utilize the Magic Rating Variant to help with caster level, but the fact that a Dragon Disciple is more combat oriented than a typical sorcerer is balanced by the fact that they progress much more slowly in spell casting ability. Of course, if your playing in a Gestalt campaign, you would get your benifits that you wish, since playing in the campaign would most assuredly be a massive power slug fest on both the Characters and NPC's side. |
