| Melil1303-18-07, 01:44 PM | I am starting a game and so far i have 6 players allowing for a +2 LA class/temp starting level 6 1 wants to be an elemental ... the problems for that can be found here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=11812927&posted=1#post11812927 1 wants to be a crusader using a build of the forums (cheating &#$%@$#) which gives him a high ac (27 at level 5 .. not what i am worried about) and basically he is almost impossible to kill ... what is good that i like is that he also makes it nearly impossible for the party to be killed 1 is a half fey summoner ... i am not worried about her 1 is i believe a feral half minotaur warblade... evens out with crappy ac and int luckily he doesn't know storm guard warrior build 1 is a thrikeen eventually dervish (his to hit is painfully low (+6/+4/+4/+4) 1 is a sword sage of which i know nothing about as of yet ... for the most part i have monsters of around 20 AC and to hits of around +10 i have resorted to tricky tactics ... anyone know if player for 1 are some what balanced or if i need to beef up my game? |
| Prator_the_Legendary03-18-07, 02:11 PM | Hmmm... They're definitely not balanced in relation to eachother. I'm not sure about the monsters... Are your players carving their way through them easily, or what? |
| Skrimshaw03-18-07, 02:18 PM | IMHO you should make a list of the acceptable sources the players may use to make characters, and then stick with it. This way their are no suprises, and nothing you haven't considered. If you are relatively new, limit your campaign to the core books, the races books and the completes (with no world specific books, ie. Races of Eberon etc.) If you are brand-spanking-new to Dming, limit the players to core books only. I cringe that a player is making a character with a class you know nothing about. Just put your foot down..You are the DM. I worry that their powergaming will put you of GMing.. |
| Drag0nUL03-18-07, 02:21 PM | I think your balance problem(if there really is one) lies within the party. The first character(the crusader) seems to be at a much higher power level than the rest of the party, And that makes planning encounters very difficult. What is challenging for the party is a walk in the park for the crusader, and what's challenging for the crusader is most likely deadly for the rest. I think the only solution is to have an out of game talk with the players. |

| Melil1303-18-07, 04:10 PM | i only don't know about the sword sage because i see him rarely ... minus the fact that the crusader is hard to kill... which is really just do to the fact he has damage reduction; fast healing; and a high ac ... however his plan is to cast shield other on the entire party(not at 1st but eventually) ...thus taking alot of damage onto him self ... and he dose really damage I didn't actually start the game yet ... i have less then a week till the 1st game for the most part they seem to be using just those books you said core+races+Completes ... although ToB as well however the Crusader is using a champaign specific class .... that adds something like ability points .... he said he is dropping the ability points because it would make him even more powerful ... (he is kind of the veteran of the group ... the rest aren't new ... just silly) |
| Nova Fujit03-18-07, 05:00 PM | easy solution, tell him to stop being dumb and pick a real class not some made up gimp one from the Forum...just a thought after all your the DM. |
| Wayett03-18-07, 05:36 PM | Seriously, if your new to DMing limit the resources to the corebooks, and maybe one or two of the complete books. I can't strees this enough. Don't let your players be what ever they want, this will cause lots of pain. i.e. Player-I wanna be a minotaur/gargoyle that is a frenzied beserker! Me- You can be a halfing rogue named Mud. You want your players to have fun, but you want it to be fair (it is never fair, but you know what I mean). PEACE!! |
| On_the_wings_of_TPK03-18-07, 06:08 PM | Power is a relative thing. Beef up your game, and they will be balanced with the encounters. The thing i would worry about is inter party balance...but as long as everyone is having fun, no worries. |
| Melil1303-18-07, 10:05 PM | lol speaking of taking interesting races... dose the NAC bonus of the mineral warrior stack with the NAC bonus of the Feral Template? Also a fire elemental dose he just get trapped underwater? or dose he Die? |
