| Masks_revenge03-14-06, 09:24 AM | Here's the situation, I have a motley crew of adventurers (levels ranging from 11 to 16) that are in the process of reclaiming a Dwarven hold from a powerful Liche. I have had an easy time with everything except for the preparation of the last battle. I have the Liche with some powerful spells (17th caster level) and he also has two Draegloth fighters hiding in the shadows. Now I want to give the players a challenge but...... I also am interested in giving the players a sliver of a chance. I definitely want the players to respect the Liche's authoroton :smirk: but the likelihood of more than one character dying is pretty high. Now, how exactly do you you take out a Liche? Another thing is that the party cleric might not be at the final battle. I know Lathander is stomping in frustration at that in the higher planes but the player might have to work and the game must go on! Any experiences of battling a Liche or DM'ing a Liche would be very helpful. :plotting: |

If you want to drive the Players nuts, put the phylactery as part of a powerful magic item that they will want to take as treasure without even thinking of destroying. |

Like Illion said, you could focus on the lich's phylactery. Just lower the lich level, giving the players better chance to beat him, but hide the phylactery in a secret room in another castle/dungeon. This way, your cleric of Lathander has a chance to fight a new "final battle." What is the mind of this lich? An angry lich would focus on evocation spells, making all the PCs suffer. An arrogant lich would attempt to disable the PCs and give a great show of its domination... |
